Cam & Rockers 51 Singer 4AD 1497cc

Post by wmcvey »

Looking for the 8 rockers and a cam shaft for a 1951 Singer 4AD engine, 1497cc
The condition is a key factor as I already have these items it's just they're worn out. Thanks,

Sorry to highjack your thread, but I am also looking for some rocker arms to replace the worn ones on my 53 4AD. I'm wondering if there are other British cars that may have used a common rocker that will be more readily available?

Can they not be repaired? I had the rockers for my 972 engine repaired by Newman Cams, Farnborough Way, Farnborough, Kent. BR6 7DH. UK tel: +44 (0)1689 857 109 email: info@newman-cams.com

They made me a new camshaft whilst they were at it and are currently manufacturing a new cam for my 1.5L sports. Their work is excellent but they are not the speediest company in the world.

Thanks for the info, Brian. Perhaps the cams can be repaired. What was the process used to repair your cams? My cylinder head is at an engine machine shop getting reworked and they are the ones that identified the issue. The machinist did say that I might be able to weld up some material on the worn surface and then machine it back to spec. Is that what you had done?

This particular shop does not do welding, but they might be able to recommend someone that does. I guess I was hoping to find some NOS or gently used replacements online as a path of least resistance. I am discovering that with Singers, nothing is that easy.

My circumstance is almost identical to yours. The block and head are at a machine shop getting rebuilt, but the cams are worn too low and the rocker ends are too flat. I going to reach out to the folks mentioned above, but being I'm in the states having things shipped overseas would be my last option. Also looking for a gently used head for the 1497 CC motor, or at least the camshaft and a set of rockers. I actually have a 52 Singer Roadster that I'm trying to restore, but come to find out there's actually a 51 engine in it. So at some point that got switched out.

the 4AD engines were all the same, minor improvements in components on the later years but the major components are all the same. A 51 head will fit and work on a 55 and vice-versa. No difference in camshafts either.

Now I'm just needing a set (eight) of good rockers. My shop found someone to build up / machine the lobs on the cam.
Does anyone have a set of these rockers their wanting to sell ??
