hole below the doors in the alu strip

What is the function from this hole in the 4A?

This strip has a hole, and I see them on more cars on the same place.
Is something needed in this hole, to catch the door?
This car was since 1968 not on the road, so looks original.

I assume it is a buffer like those on the pre war Nine Sports. See viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1677

Alu strip? It doesn't look original. On my 9 it was chrome plated steel.

Some cars have a roller there to support the door. I have seen it often enough that I think it was a option, but never seen it on official paperwork.

My 1946 A Series and my 1950 4A had the alloy strips on the door sills and the cutout for the rubber rollers that are very similar to those used pre-war.

There should also be a bronze 'wedge' screwed to the bottom of the door which rides up onto the roller.

There were also two rubber buffers screwed into the trailing end of the doors.
