Tire size for spare wheel well 52 4AD

Had gotten five Avon tires, size 5.00/5.25-16 for my 52 4AD. And the spare will NOT fit in the wheel well.
I'm thinking the originals were 5.00-16, but you can only get the 5.00/5.25-16 now-a-days.
So my question, what size tire (one you can but in 2021) will fit in the boot ?

Does the tire not go in the place, or is the boot lid the problem?
There should be an oval hole for the tire, maybe this is the problem?

The problem is the boot door will not close, there's not enough room. The tire goes all the way to the bottom floor of the boot, but even with that paneling removed, the one with the oval hole. The tire comes in contact with the wooden frame of the lid.

Ended up with just using my old spare tire 5.00-16 (Goodyear with the diamond pattern) as my spare. That fits !
Now have and extra brand new 5.00/5.25-16 Avon that cost $219. Thinking about returning it for a refund, but my friend thinks keeping it for a possible switch out if ever needed is best ?

What is the DOT date on the tire ? Tires have a shelf life. If you think you will use it before then. I would keep it. Otherwise Alger your money back
