A Queen's English Debut...

This just in from Ron Stauber, our latest West Coast Pre-Warrior, who debuted his lovely 1933 Singer Nine Sports at The 2013 Queen's English event on April 14th at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, California...
We met the Morgans West group at their shop at about 8.15 am. They took a new Morgan 3 Wheeler and an Austin Healey 100/6. We all filled up with gas and took surface streets to Woodley Park in convoy style. It was about a 20 mile drive.

We arrived at Woodley Park to find Tony Raynor’s 1936 Singer Le Mans SS parked next to John March’s 1953 Singer 4AD Roadster. Lex Dupont’s 1955 HRG (Singer powered ) was next to Tony’s car. With a big smile, Tony moved his car closer to the HRG and my Singer Nine was given pride of place in the center of the group. I had set up a ‘Thank You’ sign in front of my car and everyone complimented everyone else on the collective work done to make my Singer look great. Stefan Mincu and Derek Willburn, the restorers from Dennis Glavis’ Morgans West shop were at the show.

The weather was chilly, but clear. I’m not sure of the number of cars in attendance, but I was told around 250. Most of the people that walked by the Singers were other owners heading to the food trucks or the bathrooms. During the day, many visitors came to the park to see the British vehicles.
Tony had a hip flask in his car and, when no one was looking, each of us shared a drink to warm us up from the chill. As pre-war Singer owners, we had much to talk about!
A lot of people stopped and took pictures of the Singers, the HRG, my ‘Thank You’ sign, the photo of Moody’s Motors, Ltd (1933) and my Yorkshire Post -March 28, 1933- newspaper (which was the delivery date of my Singer) in the rear compartment. I was invited to a few Judged Events (and shows) but the only one of interest was the Palos Verdes Concours in September. I spent some time talking with the Class Manager – under 3 Litres – and ended up getting the invite. What I think sold him on permitting me to enter, in addition to the eye catching Apple Green and Ivory Singer, was my confession that I was not a Trophy Hog/Hunter, but rather just had a love of interesting autos and that Daniel, my 10 year old son, is the Navigator (and exchanged waives with Jay Leno while wearing goggles and a racing cap) and smiled at everyone (future gearhead)].

The Singer, Navigator and I, will be next be seen at the Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion 2013 Concours d'Elegance on May 5, 2013
Motor on Ron! The car looks fabulous!
