STOWE 2012 AN AMAZING SUCCESS!

Post by Phillip »

Just arrived home exhausted, but elated, from the 22nd British Invasion 'Singer Sensation at Stowe' and what a show it was!

I can say with great pride that our plan to get 22 cars for the 22nd Invasion worked to a tee! Yes, 22 Singers lined up in one place at one time here in North America! More than that, there were more Pre-War Singers than have ever been seen in one place before. Mike and Chris, the organisers of the show, waxed lyrical about our group and our display, a walk through Singer history, which culminated with a special plaque presentation to the 'Men in White'. A number of cars made their debut, including the 4A of Otto Vallestro and the 4AD's of Connie Treen, Frank Gump and 1st-in- class winner Lori Seller, as well as the'35 Le Mans SS of Barry Phillips. Our display was packed with visitors all day!!

Nine cars took up the Ballam Rally on Friday, with Ed Ballam himself making a welcome return at the helm. The Ballams were also back with their amazing tailgate picnic theme today...but more of that later!

Our Singer Sensation banquet dinner on Saturday night was fully subscribed with standing room only and our special guest, Fritz Vant Spyker brought greetings from the Dutch Singer Owners Club.

Once we get some sleep and come down off the incredible high we are on, there will be photos and more details... It was AMAZING!!!

Definitely a record day for Singers. It's unlikely even Vaughan Singer Motors ever had 22 Singers gathered in one place. Lots of former Stowe attendees and lots of new ones as well and the treat for me was to see so many pre war cars gathered. As usual, it was the people , though, who made the event. Let's hope we can keep up the momentum for next year and start planning now. Here's a small sampling of shots from the event.

XXII - 22nd British Invasion at Stowe... 22 Singers in attendance! I was amazed at the turnout! A big thank you to all who attended with or without cars. As usual Stowe is not without its bumps! Dave Craig's Gazelle suffered from fuel pump problems on the return half of the Ballam Run. Lucky (if you call a break-down lucky) that Willie's Garage, which is right next to the show field, was open and was able to order a pump. Not Singer, but one that worked. I had a chance to sit with Dave as we waited for the tow truck. We waxed of old times and cars. It was a a nice sunny afternoon with great company!

The show itself was amazing. The plan worked perfectly with the array of Singers spread in and around the display. Getting 22 cars to fit in the area provided was a bit of a challenge but with the help of John Lewis and friend we were able to get everyone a place. The display was a bit of a departure from the usual "building". This year the emphasis was on educating show goers about our favorite marque so museum panels were made showing the various eras of the Singer Motor Company. We even had a starlet on the field famous for promoting Singers!

The usual gang was there too as well as a whole bunch of new faces! Phillip has already named everyone but I was very pleased to meet new people and see their cars. There are some VERY VERY nice restorations out there and people to match.

Congratulations to all who were there and who participated in a very successful 22nd British Invasion and Singer Stowe Sensation! Next year's fun is just 12 months away!

Competitions for all this weekend! Ladie's hats ready to be judged. I say that 1sr, 2nd and 3rd prises should go to the Tarta Ladies! (then again, I am biased).

Just back, still jet-lagged but so very happy to see this year's featured marque stole the show.

The turnout was brilliant --and stunning new Singers seen. Congratulations!

Hope everyone is recovered. Do so wish we (CRL157 and I) could have joined you. Next time.

Very Best,

David

Thanks David!

Welcome back from your adventures in the UK and Italy.

You and Charlotte were sorely missed and would have been in good pre-war company! A '36/'37 style 4 seater would have been another first.

Paul and I were both overjoyed with the turn-out and it is thanks to everyone's commitment and enthusiasm that we made the '22 Singer cars for the 22nd British Invasion.' What a great group of Singer enthusiasts NASOC is!

Look for the full details in the next issue of NASOC NEWS and we'll have other stuff to go up here too...

See you there next time..... :)
