STOWE 2012 OFFICAL THREAD - CHECK HERE FOR LATEST NEWS...

Post by Phillip »

Greetings Singerites!

Welcome to the Singer Sensation at Stowe 2012 official news thread...

It may be very early days...not even 2012 quite yet...but before we know it September will be here, so we thought it a good idea to kick-start plans for our very special Singer event as part of the British Invasion in Stowe, Vermont, September 14th to 16th, 2012.

As many of you know from reading other Stowe posts on this board, as well as the full report on Stowe 2011 in the latest NASOC NEWS, Singer is to be the featured Marque in 2012, along with the Mini.

This is the second time we have been offered this honour - the first time was back in 2000- and we are the only Marque to have been given this privilege.

Given this special occasion, we are very keen to get the largest collection of Singer cars ever assembled at this event and the aim is "22 cars for the 22nd invasion".

A number of members have approached us in the past to ask Paul and I how they could assist us in preparing the show or setting up the display. We have kept track of those people and will be contacting you during the next month to confirm your assistance and discuss our needs.

The theme of our display will be "Our Proud Heritage", a sort of walk-through Singer museum with different zones for each era.

For those members who have attended Stowe with their Singer in the past, or those who appear to be likely candidates, we will be contacting you in the near future by e-mail to confirm your attendance.

Once we are set up, a regular e-mail update will be sent out to all interested parties. Updates will also appear in eNEWS and there will be a dedicated page in each issue of NASOC NEWS.

If you do not have Singer at present, or your car is not on the road, don't let that stop you! We need your enthusiasm and support too! You will be most welcome.

If you have ever thought of attending our Singer Sensation at Stowe before - this is the year to do it!

If you have not yet approached us and are willing to help out, or just want to get further information, please contact:

It seems likely that we will have sufficient pre war cars turning out for this year's event to create a separate pre war Singer class. Has this been explored with the Stowe folks to allow them time to make the necessary provisions.

Good to know Phil. It might be worthwhile to post what those options might be in order to maximize anticipation for what should be a magnificent event.

I would also propose that a list of attendees be posted on the website early in the game so everyone is aware of how close the Club is to the target of 22 cars. It could provide incentive for those that are somewhat on the fence about attending.

I have been following this post and I have NOT seen "regular updates" where are they ?

Time is getting close for some people to be making vacation plans, it may still be months away but some people need to plan time off, flights, or get their car finished, so they need to make a decision.

I think we need more information on "all options are being explored" perhaps you are on top of it, perhaps someone may see something missing in your game plan.

In the business world, we always have multiple eyes on anything important, one person in charge but multiple persons looking over the plan/project to make sure that nothing is accidentally missed and sometimes those extra eyes on the plan help with ideas, that is how businesses succeed. We need to make this event the very best we can, please accept help Phillip and let us all in on the plan in case you missed a "option".

Thanks for your suggestions Mike,

We look forward to a full report and photos from your event at Woodley Park this month.

We'd be pleased to confirm that you are coming to Stowe if you need to make plans now. Just let us know! There are plenty of options for accommodation and we'd look forward to seeing you there.

For the past eleven + years, the 'Singer Sensation' at Stowe has been building up and gaining attention as a successful corner-stone of the British Invasion event and I see no reason to assume that it will not be again. Our displays are anticipated and the form and function of our event agenda is well-known. We will still have the same Ballam Rally, event display and event dinner. The display will be larger and themed as mentioned in our previous post. Currently we are looking at options for a sit-down set meal rather than ad-hoc pizza.

Rest easy and enjoy the ride!

There is no doubt that the event will be a smashing success for the club, even if there were to be no prior advertisement or display as happened last year. The group of 8-10 who have participated in the event in the past will always return as it is a major social event and highlight of the Singer season. The difference this year is that we are reaching out to the additional 14 to 16 members who really have no idea how wonderful the event really is. This is why I think we need an expanded approach with a little broader marketing strategy.

Thank you for your comments,

If we are talking marketing ( part of the world I work in ) to NASOC members, the excellent coverage over the last 10+ years, both on this site and in NASOC NEWS, as well as eNEWS and even word of mouth, have always given a strong indication to all members of how enjoyable and engaging the Singer portion of the The British Invasion is. It has become the de-facto Singer Marque event in North America and we are very proud of that fact. This special opportunity for 2012 has been continually promoted since last September in all our communications, editorials and articles, which all our membership receives.

So, to answer the concerns from both you and Mike that 'nothing is happening,' it is early March and we are currently in the development phase of the staging and logistics for this year. Dialogue has been taking place with the organisers of both the British Invasion and the Golden Eagle Resort, with a view of building a special package for Singer enthusiasts and when this is confirmed, it will be communicated. The flavour and approach of the event going forward has been clearly indicated in all our communication vehicles and outlined in this thread. Unsolicited feedback from members and others already intending to come so far is a positive sign at this early stage.

We can also confirm that the Invasion will extend the option for a separate class for Pre-War Singers.

We would be pleased to hear officially from both of you that you plan to attend and we will add you to the list.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and support.

So, now, it's back to work! There's lot's to do!

Thank you for the update Phil. It is this type of detailed update that is required to keep the enthusiasm high. As a NASOC sanctioned event, it also helps give the Executive a better perception of how things are progessing.

And while it appears early, it's not really, given the time and financial commitment that is required on the part of our members to participate in the event.

Thank you as always for the effort you put into the planning and coordination of this event.

As Phil and Paul may correct me. I do not think that Stowe has been a NASOC Sactioned event. NASOC has not been billed for any costs for this event.
This year though I would like to propose an awards budget. Executives please contact me through the proper channel.

The NASOC banner has always been flown and the event is advertised in the NASOC News as NASOC's only National meet, so I think we can safely say it is sanctioned by the club. I agree, putting some money into formal awards is a terrific idea.

Any costs for the event in the past have been covered by Paul and myself in an effort to keep the club's limited funds for the general operation of the club. The NASOC banner was made for Stowe and paid for by the club, but the other banners were donated by sponsors who supported our efforts.

Our intention is to have awards and it would be terrific to see a contribution for same from the club. Previous awards were supplied by Dave Craig ( back in 2000 ) with the balance made by Paul and myself since. This year we have collected some attractive frames which we were going to offer with award certificates. These are cost neutral. If something more trophy-like is an option via club funding then all the better.

To the other comments, again, we are not going to issue statements about things that are not yet finalised. As things are confirmed and we are satisfied that they are deliverable, we will roll them out. That is why is we say to check back here. That said, people have told us they also prefer other methods of communication and that is why we are developing a package for circulation. The board forms a part of the process only.

We can debate back and forth forever. Our intent of this thread was to keep it light and positive as a way to roll out the event plans as they were confirmed, not form a critique on our approach to doing it, which would be better served off-line if it is felt to be so necessary by some.

We are all confident that you will organize an event to remember.

When you say in your post above "We can also confirm that the Invasion will extend the option for a separate class for Pre-War Singers", does that mean that they have agreed to provide for a separate class for it in their print material?
