Mad Dogs & Englishmen

Post by Paul Bouchard »

Hi everyone!

We are here in Lowell Michigan getting ready for Mad Dogs and Englishmen that happens tomorrow. Bill and Kim were nice enough to host a few weary travellers heading to the show. The "rate" for staying is reasonable... assisting in the installation of a newly rebuilt motor and all the other stuff that it involvs. Heck I would do that any day!

More on the show tomorrow.

The '53 4AD went 354 trouble-free miles this past weekend. From the Detroit area to Bill & Kim's sumptuous estate in Lowell, MI, to the Mad Dog & Englishmen event near Kalamazoo, then home. It didn't even use a full quart of Castrol 20/50.

I'm proud to say that 300 of those 354 miles were driven with the windshield folded down.

Well done Keith! I hope that you missed the rain on your ride home. We went through two downpours. Everyone escaped unscathed, wet but unscathed. It was great to meet you and see Dave, Ellen, Gene and Lynn. Thanks too to Rick Potter for bringing down the "Rat-rod Roadster". It was fun to see it in person. Forrest dropped by to say hi. Although he brought a "non-Singer to the show, he wore his Singer cap very well. Thanks too to Bill and Kim (ok, especially Kim) for being such gracious hosts, although Bill did put me to work! Well wrenching on Singers can not be classified as work.

We'll post a photo or two for all to see.

Paul

PS - I hopethat NASOC's official mascot Sophie is getting the lovin' that she deserves for being so good.

PPS - I also hope that Kyle does not think that Canadians are too weird.

Just got home, unloaded and, after what turned out to be a 16 hour drive, I'm ready for bed!

What a great weekend...and I concur with everything our Prez said in his previous post: Kim & Bill, thank you so much for hosting this event and opening your home to us as well as for looking after my baby! We're all back safe and sound. Bill, that was some great 'speed wrenching' getting the 4AD engine from a pile of parts to running and at the show. Well done! It was also great to see Lynn & Gene and Ellen & Dave as always. Keith, it was wonderful to meet a fellow scribe and hats off to you for showing the true Singer spirit. Well done, man!

The event is always a delight thanks to the Gilmore Museum, which it a super location. Great to see Rick with his 'Speed Racer' 4A Special and also to meet up with Forrest. We tease him about his MGA's but he has to have a strong Singer gene in him as he now has three!

Thanks you everyone for coming out to support the marque, with or without your cars. Being there isn't half the fun...it's all the fun!

It was a lot of miles, but there were a lot of smiles!

Watch for pictures soon.

Cheers,
Phillip

photo's ? wow what a concept... some might be posted next year of last years event, but only if the weather is perfect for 17 days straight and everyone who buys a lottery ticket wins, I think but not sure of this that the price of gasoline has to drop below $1/gallon for a entire calendar year as well.

Wow, seems like only yesterday! Well just about a week ago, but heck - who's counting ;)
I mean really... What's a few days between friends? And it was nice to reacquaint with old and make new at Mad Dogs!!!

Another big THANKS to all who made the trek and for our gracious hosts Kim and Bill. Dave and Ellen are a hard act to follow after hosting the past few times. Note to all: pert near all Singer folk are just plain nice. Now you do not need to go to the extent that the Norton's and Howerth's have gone to rustle up a few Singer enthusiasts - we are happy just to get together.
