Re: Stowe 2009 Edition

How do you top off a fabulous Saturday at the British Invasion... a fabulous Sunday at the British Invasion.

Sunday, for the NASOC Display Crew is used for a relaxing dis-assembly of our display and general good byes and well wishes. Well the surprises never cease, and Sunday was another example. Pim Visser's very-red Roadster now has more bling to its credit winning best red car on the field! Again, nicely done.

We usually head back home by 2:00 or so, but for all the right things we were delayed. First of all, Dennis Gage from My Classic Car was around on the Saturday. With as many Singers as have been assembled of late (10 tied with Stowe a few years ago and Mad Dogs) and the placement of the display, we thought that we would be a shoe in... well their crew was about on Sunday and it does look like the barn, and all the "wildlife" associated with it looks like Singers (and NASOC) will make an appearance! No talking, just pictures, but it is a start.

The other "Hollywood" moment was in the mid afternoon as we were getting ready to leave. A camera crew from a Quebec TV show on, of all things, cycling asked if they could talk to us. They were filming episodes for their 2010 series and this time they happened to be in Stowe and wanted to catch a little of the event. Too bad the field was bare, well almost. Three Singers were neatly lined up preparing to head out and we caught their eye. We gladly accepted their offer to be interviewed and were astounded to learn that we all spoke French! Pim, our Stowe room mate, did tell me that he spoke some French, Phillip working in Montreal has some too and with a name like Bouchard, I am expected to know a word or two. They set us up for a walk by "bumping" into us and casually chatting. More than that we were able to get the Singer name out there and even educate more people about our cars and... trafficators.

Nicely done event and a big thanks to all for attending, supporting and helping make this our best Stowe event so far.

Paul

PS - I will get photos posted today. I am already late for work, and will get a couple on the site.

PPS - The plan is already afoot for next year's display... TOP SECRET for now, code-word clearance only, strictly a black-ops affair. We may have to secretly set it up in the middle of the night before the show.

JUST KIDDING!!

Just as with the past events we will pass on the word through the Site, NEWS and eNEWS so all will have a chance to participate. No chickens this time ;)

Hey Forrest and the Stowe Gang!

Forrest, you were a really good sport to let us put you on the spot and let us use your car as the 'real' barn find! Denis Gage and his 'My Classic Car' team were busy filming it on Sunday, so here's hoping NASOC makes the final cut for the show.

Speaking of making the cut, Les Boys were also filmed by a TV crew from Quebec and Pim spoke very good french for them WHO KNEW!!

That was the final cherry on top of the Dutch treat that was Pim's weekend...1st place in class, first place in the red section of the Competition of Colours and even a TV star. Worth hauling his baby from Texas I'd say!

Congrats also to John Lewis for taking 3rd in class with his 4ADT - ex Avis - Bouchard. You've done Lizzie proud Mr L!

OH! and as to Mikey's photo contest...here it is...the embarrassing photo of Mr Prez...reduced to kitchen duty...seen here stirring things up. Lucklily someone gave him a spoon for the photo!

It was also a reall treat to see Bill Haverly and his partner Sandie on this side of the pond for a change. Bill and I go back 25 plus years and he is a good mate. Bill is ASCO's Roadster Registrar and Spares man. Robert brought the Frankensinger down especially to take Bill for a ride...and what a ride!

Look for the full report in NASOC NEWS 5 - 2009!

A great rally...10 cars on the field...awards aplenty ( Club Participation award too! ) It was possibly our best Stowe yet!!!!

Thanks Dave,

In all honesty, along with my own I did get photos from Phillip, Pim and Ellen Pearce, so the photos may be from any of these photographers. All will be sent to our Webmaster for the final judging! (I can't wait!!!) By the way Dave, Pim may have something for you in his trailer. I received your letter, thank you and much appreciated.

So weary travelers, I hope that everyone arrived home safely. The next Stowe is only 51 weeks away and preparations are underway. I hope to see you all there again, and perhaps a few more? From far or near, it is rewarding to see the efforts that everyone put in to attend. Thanks too to the "NASOC Auxiliary" for their help with the display (both up and down). We expect tough competition at next year's show from the Land Rover group. They may have the muscle, but we got the smarts! We accept their challenge and will meet them on the field!

All kidding aside, it is nice to see other clubs get into the spirit that the Singer crew has started. I still remember the Mini group from two years ago, with their merry-go-round. That was a clever display.

So to John, Karen, Gene, Lynn, Joe, Paula, Bill, Sandie, Dave, Liz, Bil, Tony, Kenlis, Ellen, Len, Pim, Peter, Eugene, Lori, Carolyne, Fred, Patrick, Dee, Michael, Christopher, Forest, Dale and their wives it was nice to see you all. And to Phillip, a very special thanks. The club is more than one or two people - it is all of us. Your spirit drives me to do more, and right now I am fully charged!!!

So Forrest, get those spanners moving! Bil, comb that mustache! And to everyone else out there, if you can - join in, there is plenty of room for everyone.
