Any hope for a West Coast Singer Event

Post by mikeyr »

I would like to start a discussion for a Singer event or get together some where on the West Coast, we can't keep letting all those East-coasters have all the fun.

West Coast meet

Post by Peter McKercher »

Mike
You may want to catch up with some of the HRG guys in your neck of the woods. They are potential members as well as guys who have like interests. Wendell Bain at wbain@sonic.net has been corresponding with me recently and seems interested in the Club. He was very impressed with the web site (this seems to be our greatest source of new members). He is in LA and seems keen to meet others. He knows Mike DeSoto (fellow SCCA concours judge). And of course Ron Stauber will be keen to get his out soon. He's down to paint and upholstery now. If you buff up that 1 dot 5 you should have an interesting drawing card.

How about picking a spot or event such as the largest Brit car meet in California. The 28th annual Palo Alto British Car Meet may be appropriate. It has about the same volume as Stowe, but much better weather. You could even do what Dave Craig did for us at Stowe and get Singer to be a featured marque.

2 other Singer owners and I have talked about the S. Calif. version of the Palo Alto show, put on by the same people. It is usually a month earlier and I would be more than happy to go to both shows. The S. Calif. show would have at least 2 pre-war Singer's.

I can't find a date for the 2006 Ventura show but here is their website, that shows pictures of the 2005 event http://ccbcc.org/modules.php?name=Images

The other show which is the one I was talking about is the Woodley show in Los Angeles, put on by the same people who do the Palo Alto show. http://www.britishmotoring.net/bm0404/C ... SS_LA.html This is the big one in S. Cal. with Palo Alto being the big one in N. Cal.

http://www.scmgc.org/ The S. Cal MG Club does a nice All British Marques Show usually late May, early June in Solvang Ca. that is pretty nice, this is the show that used to be run by Moss Motors, when Moss quit doing it they took over.

As far as cars go, Tony R. will be there with his 36 LM if it is in S. Calif. and Stephen has told me he will drive his 1 1/2 4-seater Sports anywhere in Calif for a show, as part of his shakedown for the big race. So that is 2 pre-wars, with me showing up with a 4AD if I still own it or my LM on a trailer to be my very own very own West coast version of the FrankenSinger.

If British Motoring is organizing, it's the show to be at. Also Tony has already been there along with an HRG and Steve's car will be a real hit. Maybe I can convince him to come to Stowe as well if he's interested in a real intra-continental shakedown prior to the 2007 Peking to Paris race.

Yeah, Tony's car has been there twice and so has my 4AD twice, its a pretty good show. Stephen is planning on being there this year with his 1 1/2.

FYI, a USA West Coast event is in the early planning stages already with a host willing to organise it.

More on this once his car is ready.

I'm glad the idea of an events board is starting off well.

Yes, Ron is eager to show off his soon to be newly minted restoration. It's great to see the potential for two west coast shows to take off.

ok...we are down to a few dates and events. There will not be a Woodley park this year and probably not again. There are no major British car shows planned for the L.A. area itself.

Soooo, we have 3, kind of 4 options.

1. Ventura British car day, nice and close to L.A. but far from the bay area, this show is July 23rd. This is a nice show on the lawn at the Ventura Harbor.

2. Palo Alto CONCOURS **This is the "kind of" option** this is June 25 and is a judged concours, they are willing to work with us to get some Singer on the main show field. The concours is not a British car only but this years feature is British cars, so we would fit right in.

3. Clovis British car day, 7-8 Oct. THis is right in the middle of the state and after the heat of the summer is gone, kind of late in the season I think but it should be very nice there at that time. This might be the best choice, its about 3 hours from L.A. and 3 hours from the bay area of San Fran. We have been offered our class with trophies at this show.

4. Palo Alto, 2nd Sunday of Sept. This is the biggie of the Calif. Brit shows, I have not yet heard from those organizers and its far from L.A. but it would be a good show.

So folks...I need answers, we can't wait forever to set this up, who wants to go and where ?

Mike
p.s. for those of you wondering, I am sending out a snail mail letter to S.Calif members that might not get on the web.
