Ottawa British Car Day 2017
Posted: Sun Jul 16, 2017 4:08 pm
Probably one of the best Ottawa British Car Days yet. The weather was glorious, particularly in contrast to the string of rainy days we have endured so far this summer. The show was graced with the presence of 3 Singers, including Barry Phillips’ 35 Le Mans, my ’34 Nine Sport and Robert Moreau’s modified Roadster. As usual, they garnered their share of attention.
The People’s Choice selection has matured at the show. Awards are no longer going to everyone’s favourite MGB. This year they selected a lovely pre war Lagonda open tourer, a Mark II Jag and Robert Moreau’s Roadster. For those who are unfamiliar with Robert’s car, it was rescued from certain destruction, revived with MGB drive train and built for long distance highway touring. It is a masterpiece of engineering.
John and Elizabeth Steggles made the lengthy trip from Guelph to attend the show, albeit without their 4AD which is nearing completion and should be ready for the British Invasion at Stowe. John purchased Len Pearcey’s car last year and has made wonderful progress on it to date.
The day was capped off with a barbeque chez nous, which went well into what was a beautiful summer’s eve.
