Stowe VT Brithish Invasion 2016

Post by duane »

Hello to all. This is Duane, Middleburg VA. Owner of a 1952 4AD roadster, currently being restored. My wife and I are planning a vacation to include Stowe 2016. Just hoping to find out how many Singers especially 4AD cars will be / plan to be in attendance. I've owned the car about 5 years and want to see the caliber of other cars and get to know the other guys who have embraced the marque. Thanks in advance for our time. Duane

Hi Duane,

Great to hear that you are interested in attending the British Invasion in Stowe in September. The event has become the major meeting place for Singer enthusiasts over the last 16 years since Singer had the honour of being the very first 'Featured Marque' back in 2000.

The details of the 2016 'Singer Sensation at Stowe' were written up in issue 1-2016 of NASOC NEWS. I will assume that you are not a member if NASOC, if you do not have the details. I will post them up for you here so you can get a better idea of the plans in place. This is not a club sanctioned event per-se, but rather more of a Marque celebration designed and organised by a a few of the members.

What will actually happen depends on how many advise us that they are attending. This is critical!

There is usually a rally on the Friday, the main event on Saturday with a Singer-themed display, and a dinner Saturday night, then more activities at the show on Sunday along with the awards presentations.

It is hard to say how many cars you can expect to attend. We have had as few as three and as many as twenty-two. The bulk of cars attending would be 4AD's, but we also have a good collection of pre-war Singers as well as the occasional Rootes Group cars. Some cars are restored to a very high standard and there have been some high-profile awards for Singers in the past. People have come from far and wide to attend, including California, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, and many other states and provinces. It is a pretty unique opportunity to see a selection of Singer cars together in one place and to meet with like-minded enthusiasts.

Very much look forward to seeing you there!

Warmest Regards,
Phillip Avis & Paul Bouchard,

Thanks Mike,

I am posting from work, so don't have my NASOC roster.

If you have the info in hand, Duane, and the question is, "how many cars can you expect?" We'll know more once people begin to confirm that they are attending!

Phillip

Duane,

This is the information you will have received in NASOC NEWS 1-2016, along with all other NASOC members.

I'm posting it also as an FYI to any other interested Singer enthusuasts:

The Cars that Win the Awards!

The British Invasion September 16th - 17th - 18th
Stowe events field, Stowe, Vermont

2016 marks the 80th Anniversary of the 1936 Olympics, the only Olympics ever to feature a motoring event and which saw a Singer 1.5 litre Le Mans win a gold medal, the only car ever to do so.

We are going to celebrate this milestone by celebrating the racing and sporting successes of Singer as a Marque and as one of the more popular sports cars of the 1930's.

We want you to join us, but we need you to tell us of your interest in attending. Reservations and plans have to be made and it would assist us greatly to know who is attending.

Currently we are considering the following arrangements:

- A Rally on Friday

- Display on the show field

- Dinner in the Colonial Cafe at the Golden Eagle
NOTE: This will require a booking of 25 people

- Tailgate Picnic club display

Please let us know of your interest in the above, and preferences, if any.

I'm curious about the notion that Stowe is not a Club sanctioned event and why it seems necessary to make this point in the context of this thread. In fact, it is endorsed, accepted and approved of by NASOC which to me would indicate that the event is sanctioned. The details of the event are normally posted at some point in the NASOC News and by December, there is usually something written about the event in the Club publication as well. The NASOC banner always flies at the display on the Field and the club colours feature prominently. NASOC has also received the British Invasion Best Club Display Award for the past several years in a row. I know that NASOC has also reimbursed expenses to the organizers for the event. The NASOC Regional Meet held annually at the Golden Eagle also provides an opportunity for members to join in the planning for the next year's event. I'm sure if NASOC did not support and approve of this event (read sanction), none of this would happen with the exception perhaps of the events of the day being reported in NASOC News as being of interest to Singer owners.

Contrast this with, for example, the all British Car Day in Ottawa which sees regular attendance by Singer Owners and their cars and where Singers have on several occasions taken the Best Of Show award. There have been repeated requests for this to be included in the NASOC calendar of events and the NASOC Editor has declined its inclusion. This, I would say is an unsanctioned event.

Thanks to all for the input. I've been a member for a number of years and have stayed abreast of events via the news letter. My wife and I plan on arriving on Saturday morning. We would very interested in dining with other Singer(ites) if the prerequisite number of diners/attendees is met. So, in that case count us in. Great summer to all & hoping for a great turn-out in Stowe. Duane

Hey Duane,

That's great! We'll mark you down and add you to the list. Thanks for letting me know. Very much look forward to meeting you and your wife and I hope you enjoy the show! Keep an eye on the bulletin board as I will be posting as things progress.

The Saturday night dinner will be at the Golden Eagle Conference Center if we are less than 25 and at the same resort, but in the Colonial Cafe if we are more than 25. If we are in the cafe, we will be providing a set menu list of choices that will need to be booked in advance.

Best Wishes,
Phillip

Additionally, 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the SINGER Gazelle. Introduced September 1956, I believe.

Bil! Great to hear from you!

Our display is called "The Cars That Win The Awards" celebrating Singer competition history with a special nod to the '36 Olympics and the 'Gold Medal' 1.5. Also doing an article on the event, which has an interesting back-story!

You are correct! We really hope to see a Gazelle on display for that reason also.

Come on, Bil...head out of the deep woods in September and join us for The Invasion! Bring the Gazelle!!!!

Cheers,
Phillip
