NASOC 40th - STOWE, 2014...FINAL SCHEDULE...

Post by Phillip »

THE SINGER SENSATION AT STOWE
AND
NORTH AMERICAN SINGER OWNERS CLUB
40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
STOWE, VERMONT, USA

Fall is fast approaching and so is the annual Singer Sensation at Stowe, as well as our NASOC 40th Anniversary Celebration

September 19th to September 21st

We look forward to your support and participation again this year for our 14th Singer Sensation at Stowe. Singer cars have become a firm fixture at the British Invasion, as well as a crowd favourite. You will be assured a warm reception, especially during this, our 40th Anniversary year!

If you are joining us for this special occasion, be sure to pre-register for the event on the British Invasion website, where you can pay by Pay Pal, or, if you prefer, download and print the form, fill it in, and send it with your cheque. Last minute arrivals must register on the Friday before the Saturday show day or you will not be allowed onto the field!

Details of the show are here:

http://www.britishinvasion.com

Pre-registering also helps the Invasion organisers know how many cars are coming and whether or not there are enough cars to create more than one class for awards. Singer is again one of the Featured Marques in honour of our NASOC 40th Anniversary, so we were able to introduce a Pre-War class and a Post-War class, rather than just one ‘Singer’ class. We need to have three pre-war and three post-war Singers pre-registered in time for the Event to have two classes for the show, so if you are going, please pre-register!

The forms to download to pre-register are here:

http://www.britishinvasion.com/britishform.html

Latest news from our friends Mike & Chris and the British Invasion:

"...If you have friends who are looking to register at the show field on Friday - Registration will be open from 12:00 Noon till 6:00 PM, based upon show field space being available. Those who register on Friday, will pay an extra $10 to register as we are trying to discourage Friday Registration and relieve the stress it places on the field crew as they are tasked with allocating space for both pre-registered cars and Friday registrations.

When you arrive at the Registration area your registration package will await your arrival. If you can’t make it to the Registration area before 6:00 PM on Friday, then your registration package will be waiting for you as you enter the show car entrance on Saturday morning..."

PLEASE remember to contact either Phillip or Paul with your intentions to take part in the Singer rally, Singer event display and NASOC Gala Dinner. If you have not, you are not included in the plans and do not count towards the critical cancellation numbers!!!!

Everyone is probably in their final preparations for the show... as are we!

The theme for this year is "Toys for Boys" or "Big Toys for Big Boys"

If you have any Singer related toys (aside from your own car of course) then feel free to bring it along.

My trusty old Roadster will be in attendance this year. A bit bruised however. It seems that I have been rather unlucky this year. While commuting to work one fine day in the wee hours of the morning in my daily/tow vehicle I slowed for traffic only to be rear ended and after the "carnage" was the meat in a 5-car sandwich. No one was hurt but damage was extensive. Several thousands of dollars later, and no moment too soon, I now have it back from the shop. not a couple of weeks after that accident I was rear ended AGAIN! This time while at a stop sign on a leisurely drive on Saturday afternoon in mt Roadster! Damage was not huge, but the stop lamps were smashed, some of the metal work was bashed in and surely some wood work damage. SIGH.

But the show must still go on and the bumps and bruises to my dear old car will be cleverly hidden for the show ;)

See you there!

The display is quite a visual surprise, especially for all you big kids out there!

BTW, as in 2012, our NASOC Gala dinner is in the Colonial Cafe at the Golden Eagle Resort.

Not much time to go now...let's pray to the Weather Gods!

Another Stowe has come and gone. While the number of cars did not match our all-time high of a couple of years ago there were plenty of members and other enthusiasts to make things interesting! The weather held out and the expected rain did not appear. The temperature did make the coffee vendors happy as it was a bit on the chilly side.

This years display was themed Toys for (Big) Boys (and Girls). Headlining the theme was my slightly damaged 1948 A Series Roadster. The over sized Dinky box did well in hiding the rear-end collision damage that it suffered a coupe of weeks prior to the show.

A new arrival on the scene was a beautiful 1959 Singer Gazelle convertible owned by Rod Patriquin from Nova Scotia. Rod had bever been at Stowe and was part of a larger contingent of British cars from Nova Scotia. He had not figured to see many Singers... was he ever surprised!

Awards, as usual, were handed out. Thish years recipients were Phillip Avis in the Pre-war category (1936 Le Mans Special Speed Model), Post-war awards went to: 3rd Place: Lori Seller (1954 4AD), 2nd: Rod Patriquin (1959 Gazelle) and 1st Place: Patrick and Dee Desmond (1952 4AD).

Rounding out the other cars on the field were Robert Moreau (1948 A Series Roadster), Rick and Judy Singer (1953 4AD) and Kenlis Pearce (1954 4AD). Joining Joe and Paula Tarta's clan were 3/4 of the Ballams (Ed, Ann and John), Barry and Marcia Phillips, David Kellogg and Russel and Connie Treen.

Saturday night's dinner was, again, hosted at the Golden Eagle's Colonial Cafe. A special shout-out to the Tarta family who almost single handedly filled half of the dinner requirement. Also in attendance was Andrew Bull, the Editor of Singer Wheels, the Singer Car Club of Australia's club magazine.
The dinner has been pretty popular and the Colonial Cafe continued to deliver a tasty meal. This option will surely be offered again, however to meet requirements for attendance (required by the Colonial) we need commitment from you!

So what to do for 2015! We have had a couple of suggestions and if you think of something that would be a good idea to showcase Singers then please let us know!
