Shock Absorbers

Does anyone have a suggestion on replacement shock absorbers for a 52 4AD. The ones on my car are Armstrong Type A with a manufacturing date of Sept 1952. Neeedless to say they are a little sloppy.

you can look at http://www.singercars.com/4ax/armstrong.html here on this website for some information on how they work and perhaps rebuild them yourself, Moss Motors sells the special oil that goes into them.

Other than that, all you can do is send them out to be rebuilt, the shock itself was commonly used on other cars but the arm in 4AD only. That makes them pretty much Singer only shocks, I have heard of people getting new armstrong shocks from other cars and modifying the arm or mounting points to fit, much easier to send them out for rebuilding if you can "refresh" them.

Mike: Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the Armstong lever action shocks. My car has Armstrong telescopic Type A Pat Pending date of Mfg 9-51, shocks on the front, mounted inside the coil springs. Is this not a standard set-up? I tried matching them at a local parts store but their
catalogs are all based on car make and model. The one catalog that listed some specs, length of travel, top and bottom connection were all code listed and mixed up with about 50 pages of small print. I had hoped this was a standard setup and someone had replaced these and could give me a quick cross reference.
