1968 Singer Gazelle

A local enthusiast was directed to me recently, as he had recently imported a Singer from the UK.

He will be unable to join us for Mad Dogs this weekend, but I've given him the "hard sell" on connecting with our group. It's a 1968 Gazelle sedan with 60k original miles. The owner has keen interest in this model, as it was the most-frequently badge engineered model in history. It was the Hillman Hunter, the Singer Gazelle, the Sunbeam Arrow and the Paykan in the middle east where it was produced and sold virtually unchanged for 30+ years.

Shahin has shared a couple of pictures. Pretty impressive.

Perhaps some of you Singer veterans can extend the owner a welcoming invitation to Sing with us?

He can be reached at shahin@paykanhunter.com

la la la...no never mind you don't want to hear my Singing !

not a lot of expertise in that model here in NASOC but it says Singer on the front so he is more than welcome to show off his car and join.

Nice car! A later "Arrow" bodies Gazelle and looks to be in nice shape too. Do not hesitate to post here and join us at a show or two. I would love to see this car in the "flesh".

Keith really did nearly get this car to 'Mad Dogs' ( a great show this year, BTW ) and but for that scheduling conflict, he probably would have been there.

It would be so cool to see it out at MD's in 2011!!

Thanks for promoting the club, Keith! Have you managed to wipe all the bugs off your face from the epic drive home to Detroit?? LOL!

Cheers,
Phillip

Hello everybody! Apologies for not joining sooner. A special thanks to Motown Singer for opening this thread about my 68 Singer! I imported this Gazelle back in 2010 from England, you can read about it a bit here in my Blog devoted to everything about Rootes Arrow series cars: http://www.paykanHunter.com

I never thought I be owning a Singer one day, but blame it on Rootes cause they re-badged the Arrow series under 7 different names! Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam, Humber, Dodge (Dodge Husky Pick-Up in South Africa), Chrysler (Chrysler Hunters in the UK) and last but not least the Iranian built PAYKANS.

So my car is the last badged Singer ever, since Chrysler/Rootes dropped Singer from their line up in 1970. And therefore my car is the newest Singer this side of the pond! Hoep that I can get to know more of the members here! :)

Picking up the Gazelle at the port:

Hey Shahin,

This would be a very cool and significant car in our club, given that it is the very last model ever to be badged a Singer!

We are having a very special show at the British Invasion, in Stowe, Vermont this coming September where Singer is to the featured marque. We are hoping to get 22 cars to display in our "Proud Heritage" Singer museum.

Your Rootes Arrow Singer would be a wonderful car to 'wrap up' the marque lineage and I doubt that anyone at Stowe will ever have seen one before!

Would you be interested in attending?

Cheers,

Dear Phillip,

I'm flattered by your enthusiasm and interest in my Singer! :) As much as I would love to make that commitment now, but unfortunately I might not be in the Mid-west by September, which would complicate my participants. I certainly keep you posted and will let you if there was a way for me to make it out there with my Gazelle.

Many Thanks Again! & wish you and the rest of the Singer club all the luck during that event!

Ahhh... so heading for the mid west, not not heading for the mid-west...so to speak!

Well, I hope you will fly the Singer flag at as many shows as you can. That is certainly a unique 'Singer' in North America!
