Can anyone tell me what color the underside of the fenders, bonnet, engine side panels, and running boards were as they came from the factory? On the car that I’m restoring, the original color was a dark blue. Since the car has been painted 3 different colors over the past 60 years, I want to verify if the underside of these parts should be painted black or the color of the exterior.
Thanks for all the help!

Re: 4AD Paint Details
Hi Fred,
The inside of the bonnet was painted black. I would presume that the side panels for the bonnet were also black. As for the rest (wings, running boards, etc. ) I can't say for sure.
Hope that this helps!

The remainder of the items that Paul was unsure of we're all painted black on my 54. The car has not been repainted, so that was original
Re: 4AD Paint Details
All,
I have seen several 4ADs with natural varnished wood on the upper firewall (where the hand tire pump mounts) area. Most I have seen are painted black. Is it safe to assume that this area should be painted a satin or semi-gloss black, or did some cars come with a clear varnish in this area. The natural wood sure looks good, but is it OEM?
Thanks for all the help!

Re: 4AD Paint Details
Singers were pretty basic cars. A quick splash of black was used to seal the wood.

Thanks Peter!
I'm having to replace this piece of plywood and it's tempting to show-off the natural wood grain, but I want to keep it as original as possible.
Thanks again,
Fred
