New tires for 54 roadster

Looking for advice on replacing tires.Will not be using white walls.Suggestions on size (5.00/ 5.25 or 5.50) bias ply or radial.

I've used 5.25 x 16 Firestone whitewalls from Coker Tire for several years with good success. They are bias ply. The whitewalls can be turned to the inside. They probably have additional choices. They are located in Chattanooga, TN but they can ship anywhere. They are a good source for most antique cars. See coker tire.com

Mark has a great reply on Coker tires. Lucas Tires is another possibility. My only warning is do not put 5.50 on the car. Clearance issue possibly up front and if it clears you won't be able to close the boot(trunk) with a 5.50!

I have an older set of Dunlop 5.5" wide on my 4AD. No clearance problems and the spare fits in the boot fine

I have a set of the 5.00/5.25 x 16 Excelsiors on my 1953 4AD and have been quite happy. Like most non-radial bias plys, they wear and ride well but sqeal like piglets under even gentle cornering forces. I slightly over-inflate them for winter storage and have not suffered flat spots. While $128 per tire seems steep, I would position these as a comparative value against much pricier radials.

My two cents after 4,000 tire-sqealling, grin-filled miles.
