4AD warning lights

Post by Stephen »

Hi again everyone .. I need the dashboard warning lights, I believe red & green,.. does anyone know who still makes the older type, with the chrome bezel and about 1/2 inch deep to go thru the dashboard .. I have looked at a lot of vintage and classic car sites and they all have the LED type now .. Regards Stephen

I believe the MG-TD used similar dash lights. If so, Moss Motors has them. ( mossmotors.com)

Hi Stephen,

I can confirm that the light Paul Beck and Moss Motors have seems to be correct and the same light is used also on MG T-series. I have also understanding that both lights in Singer Roadster have been red. I think I ordered the lights from Paul Beck and those had very light colored lenses that looked somewhat bad because you could easily see the bulb filament when the light is on so I fabricated darker lenses that have enough diffusion to have nice even light.

Please note that the instrument panel in Singer Roadster has milled recesses on the backside around the warning lights and light and instrument panel light switches. This is to enable the attachment of these units since they have much smaller mounting thickness than the full panel. These recesses are visible in the remains of my original instrument panel in the picture here.

And here is a picture of the backside of the fabricated new panel cleary showing the recesses.

I don't remember the thickness of the remaining panel on the recess area off hand but it around 4...6 mm.

Pekka

Thanks Pekka .. have ordered the lights, and will check out their thread depth when they arrive, to enable me to recess the dashboard to the correct depth .. Thanks for the help, and your Singer restoration site is excellent, I found it about 12 months ago and usually refer to it before I try anything on my Singer, and have also advised the South Australian Singer Club of it as well.... keep up the excellent work ..Regards Stephen
