4A bonnet bracket

Post by GeneA »

Does anyone know if the bonnet brackets shown on the Moss Motors website (http://www.mossmotors.com/) under "MG TC, TD, TF body and trim fittings, accents and trim, MG TC chrome (items 12, 13) will work for the Singer bonnet? Thanks,

Gene

Bonnet bracket correction

Post by GeneA »

I should have elaborated a bit--are the items shown in the Moss Motors site the same as would have been on the Singer--my car has what looks just like the ones Moss has. Or are the correct ones similiar to what the Paul Beck site has (http://www.mossmotors.com/) click on classic car parts and do a search using "bonnet hinge bracket" you'll get 3 hits. Are any of these original to the Singer? Thanks again, Gene

Moss does NOT have the correct bonnet hinge hold-downs !

What Moss has is MG and other Brit car styles of hold-downs that will work on Singer's but they are not correct. The correct one is from a Morgan.

I got the ones on my 4AD from ISIS in San Francisco http://www.morgancars-usa.com/

http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/part.phtml?PartID=1674 is the correct part, or at least it looks correct, it slides INTO the hinge bar not over it like a MG.

Roadster bonnet hinge brackets

Post by Bil »

Gene,
My 4A came with the MG style over-the-hinge bracket, but were flimsy with cracking metal. Someone on the old bulletin board (perhaps Mr. Rambour) advised on the Morgan type. I purchased my set from Morgan dealer Cantab Motors in Purcellville, VA. They came as a machined piece of brass, which was much too long to go down far enough into the 4A bonnet hinge opening. I had to hacksaw off about 3/4" of the length to make it fit properly.

My bonnet spine and end-caps came from Bill Haverly in the UK. They are Morris stock and the front end-cap does require some shortening.

Also, the original Singer front end-caps was (from what I have been told) also a bit higher than the Morris offering so I had to add a spacer under it. Otherwise the end-cap interferes with the grille shell.

The Paul Beck offering does look interresting!

My Morgan ones did not require any cutting or shimming, unfortunately I purchased them 15+ years ago (maybe even 20+) so I don't remember what model Morgan...had to be a plus4 :) and most likely I ordered a early 50's part.
