4 AD Front Scuttle panel side to side FLEX

Post by ggvette »

I have noticed a significant side to side flex of the front scuttle panel
with a hard pull on the steering wheel, with the car stationary.

I realize some flex in expected, however my windshield posts will move a half inch sideways
with a good pull on the wheel.

Just wanted to ask if this is normal for an unrestored car, and is it OK to leave for the time being.

Appreciate any comments.

its most likely ok for a while and these are wood framed cars so yes there will ALWAYS be flex, I think that much is too much but it also depends on how much force you are using which I have no way of knowing.

There are metal brackets at the base, I would see if those are loose, both the screws and the bolt, also the front panels that go to the firewall. That is about all you can short of rebuilding.
