I have problems with my con rod bearings , Singer Nine 1948.
The bearings seems to be casted in the rods , and I can not get them out , as to replace with new bearings.
Any know what to do ?
Please see pictures.

Re: Con rod bearing
That would be babbit bearings, they are poured into the rods and you have to have new metal poured in. I would have thought by now someone would have found modern bearings to fit and you would machine out the babbit and use modern bearings, but I don't know of any. Perhaps Phillip will know, its not uncommon so finding someone to do the work in your part of the world should be easy.

Re: Con rod bearing
Hi Michael & Mike,
I think the white metal bearing were used on the big ends of A Series 1074cc engines probably up to some time in 1949. Ironically, the main bearings were shells. 4A & 4AB 1074cc engines were produced with shell bearing big ends. You will need the correct rods to accept shell bearings, but the bearing are getting hard to find.
As Mike R mentions, I would also expect it would be easier to find a white metal specialist in Europe or the UK than here in North America. If shell bearings are getting hard to find, especially the right undersize if you are grinding your crank, white metal bearings may actually prove easier to fix!

Set the conrod together and cutter the conrod to the right size of (crank size)
Screw the cylinder head bolts out
