Any pictures of Earl Cass's Singers?

Post by DGreen »

Does anyone have photos of Earl Cass's Singers? I noticed his name came up in some early posts regarding how original they were. I'm fortunate enough to own one of his cars now. It's a beautiful car, but it has been repainted in a different colour, reupholstered, etc. I would dearly love to see any photos of any of his cars, particularly the twin carb car (my car) prior to receiving it's new paint. Also, pictures of him or his wife would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to message me or post a reply here.

Thanks,

D'Arcy

Was it an east coast car. If so, what colour was it? I might have an old photo.

Hi Peter,

It was a west coast car from somewhere in California as far as I know. It's sad when the history of these cars gets lost or forgotten. Mike Rambour mentioned Earl's cars in a couple of posts from 8 or 10 years ago and posted a picture of a firewall from one of the cars because it was known to be very original. Mike noted that Earl had 3 Singers, 2 of which he had bought brand new. Mike also posted something about Earl's cars in regards to a discussion on trafficators. I bought the drivable car after all three had come up to Vancouver Island. The car had been resprayed and re-upholstered by that point. Here's a picture of it from the other day. It was formerly blue, from what I understand.

Nice photo. The photo I was thinking of was an early meet on the East coast.

Thanks Peter. I'm hoping that someone may have a photo of the car from 2008 or earlier when it was blue or photos of any of Earl's cars. Another of his cars (a parts car) was restored on the Island, but recieved an MG or Triumph rear axle and engine/gearbox which necessitated slight widening of the rear wings, from what I remember. It was very well done, painted cream and red. It was sold after the builder passed away and I haven't seen it resurface. I'm not sure what's happened to the third car, although I suspect it's still on the Island, hidden away in someone's workshop. As for my green car, sadly it's restorer is also no longer with us either. I took this photo two days ago.

oh boy, now that is going to be difficult to find. I have pictures of his cars but they are from the late 70's and early 80's and would be 35mm slides. Since he was only 30 miles from me and I was working on my 4AD, I probably took 100's of pics of his cars. Can I find them ? I have no idea but I never throw a picture away so I have them but I am a photo bug so I have taken many thousands of pictures over the decades. I know where a dozen or so carousel's are from that era, I will poke around but it will have to be over the weekend.

By the way, he lived in Solvang, CA. Owned 3 cars, 2 of which he was the original owner of, well his wife was of one and him the other, the 3rd car was fairly complete but purchased by him to use for parts. I remember taking 100's of pics because at the time I thought it was a gold mine of information, he could tell me exactly what was original and what was not since he bought them new. And yes, if I can find the pics there would be pics of him and his wife.

Thanks for that information, Mike. I'd really appreciate any sample of photos that you can find whenever you have time, of course.

Mike,
If you have shots of originals it would be great to post them on the site. Very hard to find anything original these days.
