4AD Singer brake snail adjusters

Post by Stephen »

Hi Everyone .. having a problem with front brake adjusters .. two have broken where they go thru the backing plate and two are almost smooth .. purchased the snail adjusters from The Small Ford company in the UK but they are too small ..tried welding and filing grooves, but not a satisfactory result
does anyone know whereabouts replacements can be obtained ...

Thank you

Hi Stephen,

Sorry to hear that the ones from the small Fords are different size and do not fit. Unfortunately I do not know where correct adjusters would be available.

One option is to measure the worn adjusters carefully and draw the snail profile with proper serrations with a CAD system and then have them cut from correct thickness steel with laser or water jet. These new "snails" could then be welded to the original adjuster axles, or if they are badly worn, have also new axles fabricated.

Best Regards,
Pekka
