Midwest roadster changes hands

Singer friends.
After a wonderful 4,500-mile ride, I've passed the 1953 4AD roadster on to a dear friend near Columbus OH. The perfect owner, it joins his other classics and will continue to be driven enthusiastically, locally and frequently. He had owned one in the '50's, too.

My delivery drive from Detroit to Columbus was a sun- and wind-burned delight, taking two-lanes from Toledo south - windscreen lowered, of course.

High points from the Singer experience:
* Having a "driver" in a sea of trailers
* A "Diamond in the Rough" award at a big British car & motorcycle show
* Participating at the Put-In-Bay Road Race Reunion in 2011, driving the car there & back as well
* Saturday mornings. So many cars, so much coffee
* Woodward Dream Cruises. Once my throttle stuck wide open, once I dragged a loose lever shock for two miles, but I never - ever- overheated
* The Ypsilanti orphan show, always a teachable moment about our Singers
* Hooking up Dave Norton with Automobile Magazine - editorial coverage ensues
* Maybe not a chick magnet, but your best foot forward on a first date
* Intimidating TD and TF-1250 owners like it was my cake job

Naturally, it took two cars to replace the Singer:
* 1957 Volvo PV-444, will be participating at Put-in-Bay this year - as they did back in the day
* 1990 Saab 900 Turbo convertible - for that safer open car experience and Airbag 1.0 that will break my glasses

I wish you all the very best, and ask that Peter McK continues to keep me on his email list of fascinating "did-you-knows?"
