Hi .. can anyone tell me what tension / torque the nut on the end of the shifter shaft is supposed to be ??? Motor Trader plate 8 page 11 number 80.
Also how do I obtain a list of the part numbers listed on the Motor Trader schematic drawings ..
BRG you have a PM ..

4AD Shifter nut
Re: 4AD Shifter nut
Hi Stephen,
I don't think that nut has a clear tightening torque specified as it is not very critical place. At least I did not use any specific torque value on mine, just a common experience based "wrist"-value suitable for that diameter bolt. If you want to use some specific value, I suggest using a generic value for similar size high tensile bolt (Grade 5 or similar), ~30 lbft for 3/8 BSF or ~50 lbft for 7/16 BSF, I don't remember which size it is. This connection is stressed only during gearshifts and the worst thing that will happen if this nut opens is that you are stuck on some gear or you won't be able to get any gear on. You would also be very likely to notice the nut loosening on the gearstick behaviour. I'd use moderate torque value just to avoid damaging the thread on the gearbox shaft.
Here is one table showing generic tightening torque values: http://www.rpmmech.com/pdf/tightening-torque.pdf
