After years in hiding as part of the collection of the late Don Wasserman of San Francisco, this 1935 model Singer Nine Le Mans Coupe, car number 63189, is once more back in the light and in the hands of Singer enthusiasts.
Having worked as NASOC Pre-War Registrar with Allan Chalmers and the team handling the sale of the Singer, I was biting my nails waiting to see who finally got it. An ad had run in Hemmings for some time and names like our own Frank Gump had been mentioned as an 'interested party', but one familiar name stood out...
After a chat with 'the suspect' on Sunday, this e-mail dropped into my mailbox on Tuesday night:
Hi Phil,
We can now say the eagle has landed!!!!! So Jonas & I are happy to make any announcements regarding the 1935 Singer Coupe, BLD 569.
Champagne flowing over here.
Tony & Anna
Looking forward to Queens English again.
Yes, the car was saved by NASOC members Tony Raynor and Jonas Waxman and they now share ownership of this rare Singer. CONGRATULATIONS!
Here is Allan and the gang loading up the car for transport to Tony and Jonas:
FYI, The license plate combination of BLD 569 was issued from 1934 by the London County Council (currently Stanmore, London, NW).
Here's what the car should look like restored. Colours are most likely similar too:
Tony and Jonas have promised to display the car at the Queen's English British Car Show on March 14th, so there is an incentive to come out and share the debut!
WELCOME BACK BLD 569
