Barn Finds

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Barn Finds

Post by Peter McKercher »

It has indeed been an interesting month. I was recently contacted by a fellow in the hinterlands of Ontario who offered me a Singer, free of charge, if I would remove it from his field. I expected the usual rotted out roadster, beyond restoration, which wouldn't ave stirred me to make an 8 hour drive to no man's land.

However, a set of pictures revealed something quite interesting - a '36 left hand drive Bantam Tourer - a one of a kind and certainly a wonderful addition to the community. I have since found a club member willing to take up the restoration challenge. Much more on this story to come, but it will be a Stowe bunny some time in the future.

Remarkably, I also just received an email from another fellow in Ontario who has discovered a '36 Singer Van. It appears to be complete and has been stored since 1966, when it was last licenced. It too is a left hand drive.

Fantastic!

Wow, more cars emerging from their hiding places out there! Congratulations to the new owners and remember that the club can be a great source for support.

NASOC's pre-war registrar is a great place to start. If you do not have a copy of the News handy you can reach him at phillip.avis@sympatico.ca Rumor has it that he also has a couple of pre-war van parts... yes left hand drive!

Our librarian, who just recently acquired a pre-war car himself, also has a lot of information on pre-war cars. He can be contacted at eugene.abbondelo@verizon.net

So come forth and share your new beauties and their stories with us since we all would like to share in your new acquisitions and help with any questions. After all, that is what we are all about!

Support your registrars

I concur with Paul. The registrars are the first port of call for all but especially new owners of pre-war and post-war Singers. I was absolutely astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge Phil Avis, our Pre-war Registrar had at his finger-tips about the Singer Le Mans. The man is a walking encyclopedia of Singer information and has helped me tremendously.

I'm just helping broker (for fun, of course) the deals now, and I know the new owners will be thrilled to announce their acquisitions to the club once the deals have been completed. Both of these vehicles are unique in their own right and will be fantastic additions to NASOC.

Think how much more useful Phillip could be if he was here...

Anyway, looking forward to some pics of these cars for the website and let the restorations begin.

Yes a photo of the car, as found, is posted on Dave Garn's excellent Bantam site. Dave,as the only acknowledged expert for this model, provided invaluable assistance in identifying and valuating it.

While I was pleased to identify to NASOC members the fact that it was found, I think it only appropriate that the new owner be the one to post further details on its acquisition, his plans for it and, of course, the eagerly anticipated photos.

The same goes for the Singer Van. The transaction is being completed pending ownership papers be straightened away. I too await some photos for our site.
