UK Ebay Pre-War

For now, I lumped all the pre-war cars together, I would LOVE for there to be enough demand to split it into groups (hint...hint, post here about your pre-war Singer)

Wow! I think this is the car that John Horne had once upon a time. At a current bid of over twenty large Canadian, I think it will have to remain a 'dream drive', but I'd be honoured to own that baby!

Thanks for the heads up, Gene. That is one nice Singer. Too bad it didn't appear at the UK 100...it would have been snapped up. It will probably go to Holland or Germany I suspect.

This car placed 18th at Le Mans in '34. covering 1354 miles in 24 hours at an average speed of 56.5 mph. This would be an interesting car to own and not a bad price as it stands. Reserve not met however.

This Singer Nine was driven in the ’34 Le Mans race by the team of Barnes and Wisdom and averaged a speed of 57 mph for the 24 hours wearing the number 47. The sister car, number 48 was driven by the team of Black and Baker. These two cars made up the Nine entry for Singers that year.

The cars failed scrutineering the first time round due to the mesh in their stoneguards being deemed too small and their bonnet catches didn’t have safety bolts. All this was corrected in time for the race. Although winning wasn’t on their radar, qualifying for the Rudge Whitworth cup certainly was. By races end, they had taken a one-two placing in the Nine HP class, plus qualified second and third for ‘The Rudge.’

It was an interesting event all ‘round for the team. The support van nearly fell into the sea whilst being loaded on the ferry to France and, once there, the team got lost!

Never mind, once back in England, the Singer boys celebrated their success with salmon and champagne. A promising racing season lay ahead.

In that historical context, this eBay Singer will make a wonderful prize for a lucky bidder.

We are fortunate that the SOC and ASCO have been able to preserve the records and history behind most of these cars and share them with us.

Nice also that the Pre-War Officers work so openly and share information with each other between clubs. Friends that go back many years, and not just in the UK.

That's part of what makes enjoying these cars so special and keeping such information at hand so useful to share with others.

Surprising to me that the bidding is not going up. No new bid for a while now. I expect it way higher when it closes :)

WOW, GBP 27,650.00 (Approximately US $47,972.75) and the reserve was still NOT met, how much did they want for this beauty ?

I can't believe the reserve was not met at that price.

good thing no one asked me about the car. I would have said a normal 9 Le mans is worth $30, very good show quality ones maybe $33-35...add a few thousands for the history of that car and I would have maxxed out its value at $40k +/- a little.

Guess, I am WAY out of the loop on prices of these things.

Note to others in the club...don't ask Mike to appraise your car :D
