Singer 12/4
Anybody have any photo's of the 12/4. Been told there are only 2 cars left out of all that were produced.Anybody know where those cars are ?
Re: Singer 12/4
Which Singer 12 are you talking about?
Is it the 1525cc one built 1937 -48

More interested in the 1442 cc produced from 1933 to 1935,I was told only 2 cars exist, can’t find proof of either car, but someone must know if they are still around.
Re: Singer 12/4
That is very similar to my Light Six other than the sliding roof. All the other styling details look to be identical. According to the ASCO website David Davies has a Light Six with a sliding roof, although the picture shows horizontal louvres along the bonnet rather than the vertical ones on my version and on the other one I have seen which is owned by John Griffiths.
Re: Singer 12/4
Just looking on the ASCO site and they have a picture of a 10 Saloon from 1931 which looks exactly like the picture posted by Craigallan. The key element is the sliding roof which is clearly visible. It does seem to me however that there is a gap in a definitive record of all the larger Singer models from this era, partly I suppose because Singer had quite few of them and they all share many styling points.

Yes ColinB that is why I am following your progress eagerly. The 12/4 has the same chassis as your light 6 and most of the body appears very similar to yours ,with the noticeable differences of a tiny rear window and rear mounted fuel tank. Bonnet looks like it was from a 10hp , however the spare wheel is not on the rear like 10hp cars but on the drivers side like the Light 6.
The car has a 12hp 4 cylinder engine.

Fascinating. Lovely catalogue by the way - where did you find it?
Re: Singer 12/4
Ebay UK link as per above. Still there I believe.
Re: Singer 12/4
Thanks. It isn't there any more as I couldn't resist it!
Re: Singer 12/4
Its a very nice piece of history! There is however no mention of a 12/4: there is a 10/4 and a 12/6 with specifications as attached, which I hope you can read without getting a stiff neck! There appear to be subtle exterior styling differences mostly around the bumpers which are bit more exuberant on the Eighteen Six.

Re: Singer 12/4
Some more history has come to light. The 12/4 was only released in 1933 and was sold until 1935 , appears a 12/4 was made before this which was used at motor shows and the offical press photo was also taken , this must have been in 1931 and maybe the early part of 1932. This car was then bought along with Singer Junior to a gentleman in Dunedin New Zealand and they both arrived in 1932.The owner somewhere along the line dismantled both cars and these cars were bought in that state by another gentleman, who moved the cars up to LowerHutt, Wellington, New Zealand in 1975. They remained in that state and appears some of the body panels were stolen or destroyed by vandals around 2003, as some of the parts were left outside and exposed to the weather too. I have bought what remains of the 12/4 which considering the amount of time it’s been dismantled is rather complete excluding body panels.
Will post some numbers I have found in the hope one of the members on here could give an explanation.
Engine block besides the date 29 10 30 The only other number located by the carbs is the number 2
Gearbox : C 507
Front Axel : 18-631-GWL
Diff plug : 949 T 465
On the Head : 41
Could anyone add some meaning to the numbers, unfortunately the body number disk is on one of the panels that was stolen, so is missing.
Chassis is also badly pitted, have not been able to identify any numbers on it yet.
