1933/34 4 Seater Seats

Hi, I am reaching the stage where I need to build seats for my car. Only one of the two donor cars used for the restoration had seats, they were front seats and far from original. I have Dave Hardwick’s sketches, that give a broad idea and I have a set of TR3 running rails that I may or may not use. One reason for the 4 seater is that I am over 6 foot and this way I can set the seats back so that I can drive the car. I have also be given a set of 4A front seat backs, they have a cut out on two corners for a floor tunnel, which I of course don’t have, the 33/34 being flat floored. These sem to be otherwise identical, and I can either use as models or possibly weld a new corner section.

Does any one have any other details of seats, photos, or their own general expeience, especially in terms of how they may have built a comfortable driver’s seats cushion?

Any input appreciated.

I can take pics of the seats on my 4 Seater but its a 1.5 Litre so all the measurements will be off, but I am pretty sure its the same design/concept. I will be out of country for 2 weeks, let me know if you still want the pics.

Yes thanks, especially the base and hinge structure etc. seat size, the measurements in the car I will work out to suite my driving position.

Is your car a 1933 or a 1934?

The 1933 cushion sat directly onto the floor, whilst the 1934 car had a higher scuttle and so the cushion sat in the seat frame.

Darcy,
The seats on the '34 are just cushions which fit into each floor pan.

Hi, thanks, my car is a bit if a hybrid, a 33 and 34 going into one. Neither car was complete or restorable. The floor has been constructed flat. I did not plan on having the seats rebated into the floor. They will either sit on the floor as suggested above or one runners. If on the floor they will need to be correct distance for me before I fix as from what I have seen there is no adjustment? Is this correct?

I have a set of TR4 runners but they stand 1” high before I add the seat base etc. I could fix to the floor and base but need to be certain of the seating position first.

I would also be interested if you could measure the angle of the seat back relative to the floor (from the front or rear).
