Hi - Attempting to resurrect a 1933 (1934 MY) Nine Sports 4 seat 972cc which has been in a garage for over 30 years.
Engine free and has clean oil.
I've been told that I need to prime the oil pump as its high level but the owners book doesn't mention this.
Be grateful for method / reference.
Also need info on the freewheel or Easy Change that is fitted.
Thanks
Neil

Not sure how to prime that pump, it has no external drivers. On most cars you can remove something like the distributor to get to the pump drive and spin it, but the LM I don't think there is a way. I am quite sure someone will correct me.

On a Dino, you remove one external oil line and using a pressurized canister and special fitting, you prime the system. I suppose you could do that on a LM

My way would be to just turn engine over with the spark plugs out until pressure built up.

Remove the valve cover and undo the oil line at the front of the engine and pour in the oil.

Thanks Peter. I will do just that. Could never have guessed that - turning the engine per mikeyr would have been mine.

Further to Peters help - I couldn't remove the feed pipe as too far into casting void.
Solved by undoing the banjo connector at the top end of the pipe - reversing the banjo bolt back through and securing with nut and washer.
Using a pump oil can injected oil into the pipe - around 4 tbs.
Leaving the banjo off spun the engine with spark plugs out to see oil pumping through.
Reassembled all after cleaning / mending fuel pump and distributor + new plugs and started the engine for the first time in >30 years since previous owner garaged it and part disassembled.
Good oil pressure.
Thanks for the help
Neil

Hi

Disconnect the oil pipe, that runs from the front of the block to the pump, at the oil pump. then put some oil into the pump from the top. Reconnect the oil pipe making sure the nuts are tight.
Turn over on starter without coil connected as suggested.

Best wishes
David

Agree wit David...I like to fill the pump itself with oil also.
Contrats on bringing your project back to life.
I'm also currently working on a 34MY Nine Sports that was in storage for 50 years.
Sitting presently at Heathrow airport on my way back from the Beaulieu Autojumble with a bag full of pre-war goodies!
