Yes...this is the one I recommended and saw at Beaulieu on their stand. He had a few back then.

The vertical looks like the one that Trevor Cornelious used to sell. I have one, but it is basically a colour photocopy. This is more like the one shown in the '35 handbook.

A thought, but I have not tried, in Australia we can buy clear tough coatings (see http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/product/ ... clearcoat/). I don't know if they brake fluid proof, but my can is painted in the black and I will soon find out (it should be). If you used quality print inks, glue on and then use light sprays of this or similar material in clear (satin) you should get a workable solution, maybe.

Maybe warranting a seperate stream, but does any one have a listing of what decals there were on 33/34 LMs (or other for that matter)?

As no one else has mentioned it, it seems everyone is quite comfortable with the fact that Bill's car is attached to the ceiling for restoration.

I know I'm new at this, but I find it a bit odd. I thought the preferred way to restore a car was on a rotisserie when possible.

Suppose there are advantages I hadn't thought about: things won't get dusty on top, which cuts down on cleaning; paint drips won't run down the body work or land on your tyres; we older ones won't get a sore back bending over to install things, and when you drop bits, they'll fall onto the floor instead of getting irretrievably lost inside the car...

Why don't you tell the newbies that this is how it's done?

It would save so much embarrassment for us when we begin our own restorations. We just want to be like the others and get it done right-- whatever it takes. Oh, the insecurity!

There were two water transfer decals on the cars that I can tell you right away; the Lockheed decal on the brake reservoir and a "Singer" logo on the left rear wing. There are other screened and stamped metal 'plates', such as the one on the distributor and coil, as well as the oval stamped alloy car / chassis number plate and the oval body plate. Many radiators had a manufacturer's brass plate on the header tank also. Then there is the chrome and enamel radiator badge and, in the case of the LM, the front chrome and black "Singer Le Mans" apron badge and the same larger version on the center of the rear spare wheel.

I've secured some water transfer paper for use with inkjet printers to try out for the Lockheed decal. It is also available for laser printers. I came across it in my local hobby shop and it is is used for model airplanes.

Next step is to try a 'horizontal' design of the Lockheed logo to approximate the version shown in the 1935 handbook!

Yes. I remember seeing Stan Pearson's beautiful and unrestored red LM at a 1980s SND. The only time I have every seen an original Singer badge decal on the rear wing. On the subject of badges, when was the last time you saw one of these? Ignore the screw, but these badges were fitted to some LMs to plug the hole in the starting handle bracket. When I have some time I plan to have a small production run cast if anyone is interested.

This must be one of the rarest pieces of Singer unobtainium!

I wrote about these some years ago and have only seen them in brochure and publicity photos. Fitted to the badge bars on Singer sports cars from 1934 to 1936 to cover the starting handle hole. Some people have suggested it was some sort of factory club badge. The 1933 Sports had a chromed cap in the radiator stone guard instead since there was no 'standard' badge bar.

Did you ever get a photo of the rear wing decal? I'd love to take a crack at those too!

A nearly new 1936 Singer Le Mans SS having problems in the mud climbing Simms:
The "S" medallion is clearly visible and would appear to have been infilled in black as well.

Note the original Goodyear "All-Weather" tyres that became standard factory equipment that year.

Those pictures are tremendous! Do you have a never-ending archive of period Singer photos?

I, too, would be most interested in one of the S metal badges, if they're appropriate for the Sports model. Please keep me posted on this, whoever is undertaking the project. Was that you, David/Danish?

I love the photos from the period. Is there an archive somewhere for the images you keep coming up with? Do any of the clubs have or pursue a collection of this source of information about the originality of our cars?

I also love the period photos. That was the original intent of the Gallery ( http://gallery.singercars.com/index.php ) but it never got used that way. On the second page of the gallery are the 2 galleries that we have gotten the most compliments on, the 4AD Restoration and the Le Mans Wood but the gallery never became what it was hoped to be.
