1934 grill wire frame mounting?

I am at the stage of fitting my radiaor, grill and the chrome front piece and wire mesh. The new grill I have does not have the four studs for mounting the front wire mesh frame.
I recall discussing this with the late Dave Hardwick and he said to make and shape four spacers, drill a hole in the grill and use a bolt and dome nut.
I now have two concerns. One, I had planned to paint the grill and any spacer (unless rubber) will eventually crack the paint. If I braze mounts on to the grill I am concerned the heat may distort the fine curve of the front edge of the grill.
Second, I have seen some photos (see attached) that suggest the inner scuttle between the grill and the radiator (three sided, bottom has crank hole - see attached) may also be mounted externally on these same four studs. Others show only the mesh frame mounted on the studs. Again, if I braze the mounts on the grill do they provide for the scuttle section or not.
Both units are correct for the car, the grill just did not incorporate the studs.
I hope this is clear - what have others done?
