Spring is here and it's time for the cocoons to open. Down to the final body panel fitment. A few minor adjustments are still required on the front apron and the front wings, then it's ready for paint. Upholstery panels are all cut and fitted, ready to be covered. The list of "to do's" is getting short and I've recovered all sorts of cupboard space.

So who else here is getting enthused about working on their car because of Peter and Colin making so much progress ?

The cockpit looks really good Peter. The Le Mans is a really classy car and yours looks fabulous. I am jealous!

Thanks Colin and Mike. It has been a long time coming. Fortunately, I've had some time over the past few months to make some yards with it.

Got all the rear body work fitting properly and installed the gas tank straps. The latter had to be bent into shape which required making a jig in the shape of the tank. The jig took a half hour to make. Bending the parts took 5 minutes. The straps are stainless steel. I've left the protective paper on them until I get the car painted.

Finished fitting the carpeting today. Seam binding is still required, but it's starting to look like it might get finished. Seat upholstery is scheduled, then in for paint.

I am fascinated by the upholstery panels which I will need to make for my car of the same age. Did you use originals as templates or cut from scratch ? What thisckness of ply did you use ?

hi, do you or any other member have a steering wheel boss, bakelite, they no longer need and are prepared to sell. I have an alloy casting of Dave Hardwick design but it just doesn't look correct.

Yes, I used originals as templates. The panels are 3/16" which might be sold as 1/4" nominally.

Thanks Froux. No they are Longstone. Blockley's don't fit the rear carrier.

Just a brief update on the Le Mans. Upholstery panels are all complete and installed with the exception of piping which will be done after painting. Seats still not done so space holders are in place. Panel fitting is complete - extremely frustrating exercise (especially the front wings). Windscreen, rad and hoses need to be installed, but apart from that, it's ready for paint. Pity it all has to be disassembled once again for that.
