1934 Nine 4 seater dash configuration
1934 Nine 4 seater dash configuration
I need some more help. The dash I have was not attached to my car and was not an original. Thus I am starting from scratch. I do at least have the centre metal sectional that holds all the guages. With this I need to develop a timber dash. Can anyone help me with some photos of how the dash is attached to the scuttle? I think there are two plates, one each side, but don't have any idea where they are placed or what they look like in detail.
I also would like to know what the slope of the dash is and whether there is a gap at the top between the dash and the scuttle. In some photos it appears to fit snuggly against the scuttle while in others the slope seems flatter and more of a gap at the top.
In some photos the instrument cluster apppears to be centered in the dash pannel while in others it is off to the passenger's side leaving a longer curved lead in section on the driver's side - I hope this makes sense. What was the original? It would seem that having the longer lead in makes more sense as it allows the steering column to easily positioned.
Any photos etc would be greatly appreciated.

I was sure there would be lots of dash pics in the gallery but there were surprisingly few. I would start browsing the gallery for the LM and also the wood gallery for hints, then Peter and/or I can supply more detailed pictures.

Thanks, I didn't think to look there, attached is a photo I found of the attachment points. The actual shape remains a matter of guess work as there appear to be several different style, I will take the easiest to make.

Re: 1934 Nine 4 seater dash configuration
Darcy,
Here are a few pics of my '34 Nine Sports dash which is as original for that year. I have annotated the picture with the brackets to show its shape which is partially obscured by the upholstery. There is one Y shaped bracket on either side of the scuttle. None in the middle. The brackets double as a plate for the windshield stanchion bolts so they don't pull through the wood work.
There is a substantial gap between the top face of the dash and the scuttle. It is also sloped between the 10:00 and 11:00 o'clock position.
Let me know if you need further pics or explanation.

I am going to let Peter's pictures do the talking since my pics would be of a 2-seater.

Re: 1934 Nine 4 seater dash configuration
Thanks that helps a great deale, especially the photo of the bracket and the relationship to the windscreen bolts.
I will put some photos up of my end product when I get there.

Re: 1934 Nine 4 seater dash configuration
My initial attempt, ply template. It seems to work OK but will no doubt still need some final " fitting ". Note I am placing a matching cedar trim around the top of the scuttle ( still needs finishing). As an Australian delivered running chassis ie no body from firewall back (or firewall) I have a reasonable free hand in many areas. This finish will be similar to the sedans. In addition, I have been informed by the English register that this car was supposedly delivered to Liverpool, UK but somehow ended up down under as a rolling chassis.
This initial intent to be a coup delivery seems supported by the style of dyno delivered with the salon and twin down draught SUs that came fitted to this car and appear original. Some coups had a single downdraft, SUs I believe. However, after 91 years, many spent in the outback judging by red dust found mixed with oil etc, anything is possible.
