As 2010 draws to a close, our thoughts often turn to friends and family. It’s also a time we take stock of our lives and count our blessings.

Personally, this year was a very trying one in many ways. My professional life has continued to become more hectic and demanding and that, coupled with various technical glitches with both the computers used to produce NASOC NEWS, as well as problems at our commercial printers, meant the magazine slipped very much behind schedule. As I write this on December 27th, the printed copies of 5-2010 are in hand and Canadian issues should be mailed this week once the Post Office reopens. USA and ROW will go to Dave Green to be distributed. The final 2010 issue is now in production and I hope to complete it over the vacation period.

On the plus side, it was a very interesting and exciting year for Singer activities. The biggest event I guess was the purchase of the 1928 Singer Senior. This brings me to the part about friends and counting our blessings.

I’ve been playing with Singers for nearly 40 years, having started restoring one long before I could qualify for a driver’s licence, and I have always felt that Marque enthusiasts were a special breed. This year I was reminded in spades how true that is! When the Senior deal came together I had no real idea how I was going to make it work, but Ron Stauber in LA helped me seal the deal and Bill Howerth without hesitation volunteered a safe sanctuary for the car so we could attend Mad Dogs with it and trailer it home.

Later in the year I had the great fortune to meet up at the Beaulieu Autojumble with Colin Borley and Simon Bishop, both Senior owners, who had assembled an amazing collection of spares and literature for me. Colin had even re-manufactured a new water pump for my car, as well as running board mats, a new silencer and windscreen brackets, amongst other things. Beauleau was equally kind, yielding a fairly priced set of Rotax sidelamps to replace the horrible truck flashers fitted to the car.

I don’t know many groups, automotive or otherwise, where I would receive such wonderful support and friendship – all for a common interest and passion in Singer cars.

Long may it continue!

Merry Christmas everyone and warmest wishes for safe Singer motoring in 2011.
