Re: Singer 10 vs 9

Charlie, you are bang on. Aside from a few minor external differences, and a couple of internal, the head, cam, ancilliaries were all interchangeable. The only other difference was the SU carb. There is a"10 HP" stamping along the flange where the carb attaches to the manifold. With the di...

Re: 2.5" pistons ?????? in 4A

Looks like your engine may have had some modifications. The formed in thrust bearings are correct. All the Super Ten engines would have had the Babbitt bearings for the big ends if the con rods. The conversion is a good idea since finding someone out there who does this is getting tougher all the ti...

Re: 2.5" pistons ?????? in 4A

Hi Charlie, Well with the "B" prefix it is a post war Super Ten engine that you have there. 7000 series would make it more than half way through the production (for post war). I remember the surprise that I had when trying to figure out why there was a "10" cast in my block when ...

Re: 2.5" pistons ?????? in 4A

Charlie, Well fancy meeting you here! Well good move keeping the Singer, but remember... I am rather biased. It does appear that you have a 10 HP engine there. I have one in my Roadster too (love the extra power... kind of). The 10 HP has 63mm pistons so if these are +30... well you can do the math....

This is sounding VERY tempting... you may have to count me in too! Sans car unfortunately due to the carry-on baggage rules ;)

Hello 2010! Car Show our west anyone???

Greetings and a Happy New Year! 2010, heck I am still signing my cheques with 2009. One of the earliest car shows of the season is the Queen's English in the Los Angeles area. As you may remember there were 3 Singers on the field, all pre-war I may add, and as usual many visitors with Singer stories...

Nicely said everyone.

To all of our Singer family out there, all the best for the holidays, a Merry Christmas and here is to a bright and bountiful new year! Get out there, meet people and share stories and perhaps help someone with their project.

All the best from your NASOC Executive,

Paul

Re: 1074cc vs. 1497cc Engine Identification

Hi Mark, There are a few specific things that you can use to distinguish a 1074 from a 1500 engine. Serial Number: Both found on right side of engine where joined to the gearbox. - Each engine has a unique serial number. The prefix will identify the engine series: - A = A Series - 4A = 4A - etc. Cas...

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Hi Keith and Coco, Welcome! Michigan has been a hotbed for Singers lately. In 2007 we had the most Singers in at one show in a recent times with 10 cars, tied with Stowe 2006 and 2009. I am sure that Mad Dogs & Englishmen 2010 will be up there too. For fun, here are some links to the posts in th...

Re: How do you get that master cylinder nut off?

Nicely done, and great photos! Dave is the man when it comes to parts and the interchange. Mike too had a 4AD for quite a long time so should also be good to help out. My experience is just from one car, but the memories are still fresh. Between everyone there should be some good info. Healey brake ...

Re: Photos from St Louis All British Car Show

To follow suit behind Mike and Phillip... nicely done!

Awards are nice, and they do fill empty spaces on the wall or shelf, but for me the fun is meeting people and giving them information on our car. Great to see photos of people getting out there on the site! Keep it up everyone!!

Re: How do you get that master cylinder nut off?

Tom, WOW! 60 years of driving in one day. Impressive ;) The SM1500 can be a confusing moniker. In the US (and Canada) the 4AD was often referred to as the SM1500 but there was also a all-metal saloon by the same name. They shared a very similar engine and I guess that at the time the British are all...

Re: What is it about the 4AD? or Philosophy 101 or Mikes new car

That is easy, one more than the wife will let you keep. That is very clever... and so right! Being in a colder climate, the issue is covered storage space. Leaving a car outside with all of the radical temperature (and humidity) changes is brutal. Having participated in a 4AD rebuild I will say tha...

Re: What is it about the 4AD? or Philosophy 101 or Mikes new car

Hi Mike!

Welcome back into the Post-War world. Correct me if I am wrong, but did someone squeeze an A Series rim on the front axle?? Gutsy.
