Re: 4AD Whats Wrong Here ...Hood Fitment
Hello Grant, I went home at noon and examined my 4AD to see if I could help. First, let me say that I don't presume to have an original or "correct" car. However, the bonnet, grille & valences do seem to fit together well. First, check to see what the length of the bonnet is along the ...

Re: engine torque figures
Let me clarify my statement from above. When I said that the tabs are inactive, what I should have said is that if you click on th miscelaneous tab on that page it brings you right back to the same page instead of showing the menu that gives you "Everything about 4ADs". You have to go to a...

Re: engine torque figures
Mike, First of all, let me say that I think that your/our website is amazing. There is such a wealth of information contained in it. Over the years, I am sure that I have clicked on every tab and gleaned every bit of information from it. I am also sure that I would not have been able to do my restor...

Re: Over heating in 4ADT
Where are you located? Are you talking 20 degrees Farenheit or Centigrade? If you are talking Fahrenheit, you might also want to test your radiator cap. It might be possible that at temperatures 20 degrees Fahrenheit and below your thermostat never opens. When the temperature is 30 degrees and above...

Re: Over heating in 4ADT
Since your car is a 4ADT, I am assuming it is a later model. In mid 1952 (starting with model no. 4AD900V) the cooling system pressure recomendation was raised from 4 psi to 7 psi. Also, the twin carburetor models should have a properly working thermostat. A non-contact infrared thermometer is very ...

Clutch Release Bearings?
I need to replace the throwout bearing on the clutch in my 4AD. I am familiar with the carbon faced bearing that came on my car. I understand that it is the same as used on the MGA and MG-T series cars (Moss Part #190-290). I have also been told that Aetna Bearing makes a ball bearing replacement (#...

Re: One year with my 4AD
Probably didn't exceed 1400 this year. It's been a challenging year with an complete engine rebuild followed by a blown head gasket. However, I have logged 13,000 miles in the past 8 years since I restored my 4AD. Keep it on the road!

Re: 3day weekend, what are you doing ?
Hello Phillip, Over the past several months I completed a full engine rebuild and replaced the engine in my 1952 4AD. New cylinder sleeves, rings, mains & rod bearings. Compression at 125-130, oil pressure at 35psi/35mph. Runs great! No smoke! No oil leaks (yet)! This past Saturday, I took it to...

Re: Oil line fitting 4ADT
I rechecked the threads on the whitworth 1/2 inch bolt and they are 12 tpi. The hole in both of my engine blocks are 16 tpi. I researched every pipe and tubing chart and could not find any fittings in the 1/2 inch range that had 16 tpi. Meanwhile, I had contacted our wonderful friend from across the...

Re: Parts needed
Craig, The proper elbow is a cast aluminum piece with a flared body and will probably be difficult to find. Since you called it an elbow, it got me thinking, maybe you could have an elbow fabricated by a local muffler shop. It might get you on the road until you can locate the proper piece. Good Luc...

Re: Oil line fitting 4ADT
A 1/2 inch whitworth bolt is a tight fit and the threads seem to match at 14 tpi. The 1/2 inch whitworth bolt O.D is 0.500 inch. I agree that the 1/2 inch British Standard Pipe Thread is also 14 tpi but the O.D is a nominal 0.825 inch. Am I missing something? I am working from charts, since I don't ...

Re: Oil line fitting 4ADT
Can anyone confirm the thread size for the oil line connection to the 4AD engine block. The 1/2 inch whitworth bolt thread is very close but seems too tight. I don't want to strip the block. Shouldn't this be some sort of pipe or tubing thread instead of a bolt thread?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: gas tank sending unit assistance
That unit should work in the 4AD. You might want to contact Moss and confirm that it contains a rheostat and not just a switch, like the MG T series cars use. You also may have to bend the float arm to get the proper range on your gauge.
Good Luck!
