Singer for Sale

Hello all, Listed as a 1951 Singer 9 in Dalton GA, is actually a 4AD as far as I can tell. Looks in pretty rough condition with what looks like a non-Singer engine. Is $2800 a stretch? I do know someone that knows the owner and says that it can probably be had for much less! Here is the link http://...

4AD Wiper Parts

Hi all, I have received my windscreen frame back from the chrome shop for my 52 4AD and have purchased the seal to refit the glass, so while my focus is in this area I thought I would work on the wiper details. So I have the frame and a restored motor but literally need everything else. I need the s...

Re: Upper Radiator Hose

Here in the states, I would check with Kip Motors in Dallas. If that doesn’t work, Barry Paine of the Association of Singer Car owners (ASCO) in the UK has taken over the parts that Bill Haverly had access to. That might be your best bet!

Good luck,
Fred

Re: Air Cleaner - Dirigible Type

Hey Mike, What you say actually makes more sense, that the pancake filter may have never come as standard on the single carb model. Now that I think of it, I have seen later model cars than mine with classic canister type filter. I may have misunderstood, can anyone confirm if the single carb 4AD ev...

Re: Air Cleaner - Dirigible Type

Hi Brook, By now, due to hearing only “crickets” in response to this question probably says a lot. My experience is that the only part harder to get than the “dirigible” style filter on the 4AD is the cast elbow that must accompany it! I’ve seen only one of these elbows come available in the past fo...

Re: Oil capacity

Hey Mark, Thanks for the info, this is exactly what I need! The engine is coming together quite nicely; the head is now in place, timing is done, and working the final details before I paint the entire assy. After that, I can fit all the other pieces and install it into the frame! :D Thanks again, F...

Re: Oil capacity

As I work through the details of my 52 4AD engine rebuild, the dipstick has been repaired several times (broken and brazed back together) and looks like a straightened pretzel. My assumption is that an OEM replacement is nonexistent, but someone might just have one in good condition. If not, I simpl...

Lucas RB106 Control Box / Regulator

Hello all, As I'm gathering engine parts, I decided to have the starter and generator overhauled since they were both original and the generator unproven. The electrical guru doing the job wants the control box to make sure that the generator won't be damaged with an unproven regular and that they a...

Re: 4AD Oil Filter Spring

I ran across these (see 2010 posts from Mark below) that seem to be a very simple fix. :P Is this setup still working well? I assume that I do need the spring. "Regarding the oil filter cartridge, I've been using Wix filter #51328 and Car Quest filter #85328 for the past seven years. They are r...

Re: 4AD Oil Filter Spring

Hello all, As I nibble away at all the little details of the engine restoration of my 52 4AD, at disassembly of both the engines that I have, I noticed that neither had an oil filter or the spring mentioned in this thread. With the options listed here, I think I want to keep the OEM look, which rule...

Re: 4AD Engine Parts

Hey Guys,
Here are a few pictures of my issues! The original engine with the repaired block, and the spare engine that #3 cylinder looks more like something you would find in the Titanic engine room.

Re: 4AD Engine Parts

Hey Pekka, Per Stephen’s recommendations, I contacted Reg Dunn at Auto Surplus in Australia and he says: “We have the following oversizes available in Pistons & Rings for the 4AD . +020, +030, +040 & +060. as well as Standard Bore.” They quote the best price yet at A$520.00 per set plus ship...

Re: 4AD Engine Parts

Hey Mark, I’ll be dropping off the disassembled engine to the machinist within the next few days. I mentioned this very thing to him, thinking the right thing would be to sleeve all four. Since I’ll probably have to buy a set of pistons anyway, his thought was to sleeve the one very corroded cylinde...

Re: 4AD Engine Parts

Thanks for all the great information guys, things are starting to come together and I'm now fairly sure all the pieces to the puzzle are out there. I'll have hard seats put under the valves and at least one cylinder will have to be sleeved, from what I understand these shouldn't be a problem....

4AD Engine Parts

Good day to all, I'm now in the process of going through the engine of my 1952 4AD, the last great unknown adventure of my restoration. I have two engines that both have major problems, so the goal is to piece one together that will serve me well. I was simply wondering what avenues are availa...
