4AD thermostat?

My 1952 4AD (1849V) came with an adapter plate in which the thermostat is mounted between the adapter plate and the engine block. The plate is about 3/4" thick and has a machined recess for the thermostat. My later model 1953 4ADT (2848W) however, came with a housing that was modified (probably...

4AD Oil Flow through Filter

Both of my 4ADs came with poorly fitted oil filter cartridges. I have been able to find the proper oil filter cartridges from three different manufacturers. However, each filter comes with a different set of gaskets. This raised several questions that I am hoping someone can help me with. What exact...

If you scan down the list of topics in the forum, to 4A bonnet brackets on March 3rd of this year, there are several suggestions for sources for these brackets. I hope this helps.

Solex Carburetor Vacuum Ports

Last night, Russell Natali and I were discussing a problem he is having with his 4ADT. His car runs fine on level ground, but stalls whenever he attempts to go up a hill. He says it seems to be starved for fuel. He is working on an alternate fuel pump as a possible solution but would welcome any sug...

4AD Gas Pedal?

My 1952 4AD came with a roller on the end of the accelerator linkage. On most cars, you would expect a gas pedal hinged at the floor to move against that rolller. My car has no signs of ever having a gas pedal. My 1953 4ADT doesn't even have the roller on the linkage. Are 4ADs supposed to have gas p...

Thanks Bil,
The Sucker vs. Pusher issue relates to a vapor locking problem that sometimes occurs down here in Southern climates that is aggravated by the fuel line running parallel to the exhaust system. You Yankees probably don't have this problem.

Mike, I have a similar plumbing arrangement to you, with a second fuel pump in the rear, pushing instead of sucking. I also have a slight leak at the side of the carburetor where the throttle shaft goes into the carburetor. My pressure runs 2-3 psi. That is why I asked the question about what is sui...

If you are still looking for shocks, Shockfinders in Silverthorne, CO were able to find shock absorbers and custom made shock links for my 4AD. They can be reached at (970) 513-8283. They will need the dimensions on your shocks.

Good Luck, Mark Thompson

Steve, As I was rebuilding my own front brakes, I ran across something I thought I would pass along. On the front brake shoes, if you compare all four, you will notice that two of the shoes have pins on one side and two have them on the other side. When the shoes are installed these pins must engage...

Gene,

If the angle iron support was standard on the 4A, it must not have been too important. It appears to have been designed out of the 4AD running board. Neither of my 4ADs have them and I have had no problems with the one I have restored and been driving.

Gene,

I suppose you could use a shock link, like the ones used on the rear shocks and the front suspension, in a similar mounting to achieve the same purpose. Just a thought....

Mike,
I am downloading a copy of Irfanview while writing this. Do I need to convert the file to a different format or just resize it? What are acceptable sizes? Isn't the clarity reduced as well? Sorry, I am a novice at this, but am eager to learn.

Thanks,
