Re: Dash lamp cover
I've attached some pictures showing the internals of an original lamp for mounting directly on the wooden dash. The thread is 7/16" x 26 TPI (oddly the nut hexagon is 5/8" A/F). All parts (except the washer but including the clip) are brass. Let me know if you need more detailed dimensions...

Rear mudguard fixing
I'm trying to fit the rear mudguards to my 1934 Le Mans 2 seat. Clearly the front is attached by 2 bolts (per mudguard) through the wheel arch, but what happens at the back - is it screwed to the fuel tank frame or is there a bracket going somewhere? Should there be piping between the mudguard and t...

Re: Le Mans 2 Seater Dashboard
Similar lever controls by various makers (Bowden, Amal, Doherty etc.) were used extensively on motorcycle handlebars for adjusting the magneto timing, throttle, choke etc. They were supplied to fit two handlebar diameters, 7/8"- used by the the majority of marques, and 1"used by Scott(!) a...

Re: Le Mans 2 Seater Dashboard
Thanks Philip for posting the photos of the Le Mans ignition switch – I’ve wondered for ages what they looked like. All I have to do now is find one. I’ve got the remnants of a totally different Lucas spade key switch. I might try and adapt it for the time being. I was also interested to see your pi...

Re: Le Mans 2 Seater Dashboard
This is a faithful reproduction made to the dimensions of the original dashboard from my Le Mans 2 seat 9hp registered in May 1934. The hole for the choke can be seen to the bottom left of the speedometer - the location is correct but I'm not sure of the diameter. The hole for the ignition switch in...

Re: Wiring Colour Codes for 29 Junior
Interesting that none of the wiring diagrams of the period include the petrol pump, presumably because it was of non Lucas/Rotax manufacture. Worth bearing in mind if you are thinking of ordering a harness.

Re: 33-34 Front seat upholstery
I too would like all the information I can get about the front seats. This topic came up in this forum about a year ago ('Le Mans seats and upholstery') where Roland ('mothy') gave a lot of useful information although his seats had been remade. Were the front squabs really only located by a peg and a...

Re: Double windscreen wiper components
I haven't dismantled the assembly as it seems to be in good working order but I think there is some sort of bobbin inside to centralise the stirrup, spring and arm - the arm moves freely against the spring but with only a few thou lateral or axial movement. The outside diameter of the boss on the ar...

Re: Double windscreen wiper components
There is a coil spring within the boss at the end of the arm - see photos. My Le Mans came with less than half of the wiper assembly. I've managed to copy or reproduce most of the parts without too much trouble but I'm still missing one wiper arm which is not an easy item to fabricate. Incidentally,...

Dash lamp cover
I recently saw a request from Australian Le Mans owner in need of a dash lamp cover. I didn’t have a spare but coincidentally I had just made one for the second dash lamp on my own Le Mans so I sent him a sketch. This may be useful to other Singer owners so details follow. According to the Hardwick ...

Wiring loom cover
Phillip - funny you should mention the wiring loom cover. Been there! Done that! I was lucky to get a wiring loom cover a few tears ago when Hardwick’s still had some in stock. The cover itself was reasonably well made but the welded-on clips looked cheap and awful. I ground them off and made some n...

Tool Clips
For some time now I have been trying to find a few tool clips to complete the tool deck on my Le Mans since several are badly corroded and one is missing. I’m sure there are some out there somewhere but living in the wilds of Spain makes seeking them out difficult. I fought shy of trying to make the...

Re: lockheed decal
The lacquer to avoid is 'Promatic Clear Lacquer' marketed by Capella in the UK. I should add that this product worked perfectly well when I used it for its primary purpose - lacquering car base-coat paint.

Re: lockheed decal
A cautionary tale involving the application of David Swann's excellent Lockheed transfer. Having successfully applied it to my reservoir tank and after allowing it to dry thoroughly I applied a coat of acrylic lacquer described on the can as 'suitable for over-coating water and solvent based coats',...
