Re: Side mirrors

Your car looks great! If those other cars in the background are yours, too, then I think we have similar interests. I've always like the Daimler sp250 and the Auto Union 1000sp. I've got a DKW Junior and DKW 3=6 Universal (station wagon).

Re: SAVE A SINGER!

That does look like a nice car. The photos on eBay show one of very few original vinylide covered dashes that I've ever seen. Curious about the grill bars, though, with the hole for a crank. Seems like those bars may be cut down from a earlier model with a longer grill. I didn't think 4ADs ever had ...

Re: Side mirrors

Every picture that I've ever seen from the 1950s, including dealer advertisements, show either no side mirror at all or just one on the driver's side. Lots of restored cars have them on both sides for safety reasons. Unfortunately, I don't have the chrome bracket that bolts to the windscreen support...

Re: Side mirrors

Here are a couple of photos of the Raydyot side rectangular mirrors that appear in many period photos of 50s Singers. They have curved glass, a black body with a separate silver coloured "Raydyot" medallion off to one side, and a chrome bezel. Other variants had the logo stamped into them....

Re: Side mirrors

Some of the best photos of the rectangular side mirrors are the vintage photos with Marilyn Monroe or Donald O'Connor. They are good quality images that can blown up and clearly show the mirrors. Also, some of the vintage racing pictures and dealer pictures that Peter has posted in the past show the...

Re: Fender Beading

It's also referred to as welting. You may find better options if you use that term and should be to source the nylon or vinyl version of that just about anywhere in many colours. There was a posting about the colours used for welting a few months ago, as I recall, perhaps in the discussion about uph...

Re: Windscreen bottom gasket

That's great! Thanks for posting the pictures. The rubber that I have has a wide edge and narrower edge. I assume that the narrower edge forms the leading edge across the front of the bottom of the windscreen, while the wider edge gets sandwiched between the aluminum strip and the cowl. This covers ...

Re: Windscreen bottom gasket

I am hoping to affix the rubber strip below the windscreen to my car now, not I'm not completely clear on the instructions for how to produce the aluminum strip that holds it down. Specifically, I'm unclear on what is meant by "it bends it's approximate width". Are you saying that it needs...

Thanks for that information, Mike. I'd really appreciate any sample of photos that you can find whenever you have time, of course.

Re: Any pictures of Earl Cass's Singers?

Thanks Peter. I'm hoping that someone may have a photo of the car from 2008 or earlier when it was blue or photos of any of Earl's cars. Another of his cars (a parts car) was restored on the Island, but recieved an MG or Triumph rear axle and engine/gearbox which necessitated slight widening of the ...

Re: Any pictures of Earl Cass's Singers?

Hi Peter, It was a west coast car from somewhere in California as far as I know. It's sad when the history of these cars gets lost or forgotten. Mike Rambour mentioned Earl's cars in a couple of posts from 8 or 10 years ago and posted a picture of a firewall from one of the cars because it was known...

Any pictures of Earl Cass's Singers?

Does anyone have photos of Earl Cass's Singers? I noticed his name came up in some early posts regarding how original they were. I'm fortunate enough to own one of his cars now. It's a beautiful car, but it has been repainted in a different colour, reupholstered, etc. I would dearly love to see any ...

I thought that engine looked a bit weird, but didn't look closely enough, I guess.

1951 Singer 4AD on eBay

There's a 1951 Singer 4AD on eBay at the moment, if anyone is interested. Looks to be largely complete, but banged up a little. Here's the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes-Roadster-Convertible-/152292900762?forcerrptr=true&hash=item23755d3f9a:g:q7IAAOSwHsRYDogi&item=152292900762 D'A...
