Tanglewood British Motorcar Festival

FYI - Michael Gaetano of British Invasion fame has organized a new show which should prove to be on a par with Stowe. The event takes place June 17-19 in Lenox Ma. Class 48 has been set aside for Singer. See details at http://tanglewoodmotorcarfestival.com/

Re: Convertible top rear end attachment

Kabu I did not have an original strip for my SM 1500, but I would speculate that it would have been similar to the one on my Nine Sports. While a thin aluminum strip was fine for the windshield rubber, it would have been insufficient for the stress on the convertible top. The piece on my Nine is a h...

Re: Windscreen bottom gasket

Pekka Note as Grant says, it bends approx its width at the centre. It is important to get the correct arc or else you will find that the strip buckles with the last couple of screws on either end. I believe you are familiar with metal work and know how to get an arc out of a straight piece of metal....

Re: "New" '34 LeMans

From a U.S. registration perspective, it will probably be required to go with 60053 and I'm assuming the chassis proper is 60053, but not any of the drive train or axles. They seem to have come from something else. The body is another matter. From a British registration perspective (and club records...

Re: lower section of wood frame

Good call Mike. I just checked mine as it was quite a balmy day in the garage today (9 degrees f - T shirt weather). The section is made from 2 pieces - one short one at the front and a long piece which goes under the door and bridges the door post (Rabbet) and the bottom of the wheel well arch (Lap...

Re: "New" '34 LeMans

Well isn't that interesting. So close and yet so far. It could be that the license plate was swapped from another le mans, although the serial numbers are so close that seems like a stretch. Maybe a clerical error...

Re: "New" '34 LeMans

Dan
FYI, there are only about six Type 1 Le Mans cars left, at least two of which have had their doors rehung.

This is one of them below recently placed for sale by a dealer for £39000 at the NEC show in the UK.

Re: "New" '34 LeMans

Very cool Dan. You have a really early example of a Le Mans. Perhaps the doors were modified to get it licensed in the american market or whoever brought it over just felt they were unsafe. The number you are looking at is a casting number, not the serial number and you are looking at the side of th...

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

In fact the car was sold to E Toft of Derby and entered in the May 1934 RSAC Scottish Rally. While it was a Non Starter it's likely the car had seen other competition before entering such a major event. It would be interesting to investigate that.

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Dan
By the way, if 60057 is indeed the correct number for your car it might well be a type 1 originally with suicide doors. Is there any evidence that the doors were previously hinged at the back?

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Dan, As Phillip has indicated, you should be able to find the serial number on the dumb iron. Check out this page on our club website to help you find it. You should find it to be #60057 if your licence plate ANU 965 is the original for the car. I'm sure a good deal more information is available, wh...

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Dan
FYI, the Dunlop tires are available in England from MWS International at $175 USD ea. They also supply wire wheels that are absolutely correct at $254 ea. A discount of 5% is given to Singer club members. I purchased a set last year for my Nine Sports when the old wires became too lumpy.

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Dan Looks like you have a great basis for a restoration. Very nice looking car. You're also in good company as several of us are in the throes of restoring pre war cars, including myself. I have a fully restored '34 Nine Sports and am doing a ground up restoration of a '34 Le Mans. Any interior shots?

Bucks TV outclips

Just so I don't appear to be displaying any favouratism towards the Pre War set, I've pulled another Singer related video. Again, it's from Bucks TV, which seems to have an affinity for our little cars. outakes2.jpg This time it's a 4AD named Madge which happens to be featured in the out take segmen...
