Paul,
Wow, looking at these pictures I can see how much my car has been modified. Someone had moved the firewall back and changed the layout of the steering column. I am so glad I decided to make a hot rod out of it. It sure made my life easier.

Re: V-6 Singer 4 AD
Mike, This car was cut up before I got it and someone had already removed the X bracing. I plated the frame its entire length. In essence it is boxed end to end. I also had to modify the rear crossmember to clear the driveshaft, so I added diagonal braces and a removable transmission crossmember. I ...

V-6 Singer 4 AD
I thought I would be driving my car by now, but a few minor set backs had to be resolved. I installed an MG Midget steering rack. The first time I drove the car was scary. It would not turn sharp enough. Back to the drawing board. I had to modify the the steering arms a second time. The next drive wa...

Re: Direction Indicator Mystery on Roadsters
Singer my not have been able to purchase the Trafficators. In the case of Indian motorcycles. The last year of production was 1953. Indian had been using Linkert carburators since the early to mid thirties. Because of the low production run in 1953, Linkert refused to sell Indian the carburators. Th...

Re: Direction Indicator Mystery on Roadsters
Peka, My trafficators were long gone when I bought my car and someone had fiberglassed over the holes. To maintain a stock appearance I rewired the rear tail lights on my 1952 4AD to use a 3 wire socket. Up front I used two small motorcycle style lights and rewired the fender running lights to also ...

Gasket Material
John, There are many very good silicone sealers available. I recently did a valve job on a Saturn. They only use silicone as a gasket for the timing chain cover and water pump. Nissan also uses silicone for their water pumps. If the side cover on the Singer is rigid enough I would recommend using th...

Great points of view. You are correct about the fact that cars that are obscure make it easier for us little guys to aquire them at a reasonable price. I purchased my Alpines 10 years ago for peanuts as well as a rusted out Tiger. That is what is great about our hobby, different points of view. Usua...

Speed/ Values
That part is true for most pre-war Singer's, the 4 cylinder ones can't keep up but the 6 cylinder ones easily can keep up. Keep up at what speed? I have owned two 1967 Sunbeam Alpines. They were fun to drive, but you could not drive them all day at 55mph. I now live in Arizona where the highway spe...

ebay Singer
I do not own a pre war Singer, but I love the looks of them. I sold my 1924 Harley Davidson with a sidecar last year because I was limited where I could ride it. I think it is the same with the pre war cars. They are hard to find parts for and the old men who own them are dying off. They can not kee...

rubber weatherstrip
My car is a 1952 4AD and it has 1 piece of hard rubber on each side of the radiator shell where the bonnet closes on it. This might be the one item that has never been touched on my car. It is mounted with very tiny straight slot screws.

A new dilema
As I stated previously, my 1952 4AD has been heavily modified before I bought it. Trying to get things to fit has been an uphill battle because who ever did the work was not very capable. I have had to redo a lot of things. A new problem that has surfaced; someone used fiberglass as well as welding ...

I am so glad my car is modified (V-6 Chevy, , metal replacing the wood, etc) and so far from stock that it is not practical to make it original again. This way I can make it anyway I want without worrying about what is correct.

Grant, If you are going to drive your car under normal conditions stick to the modern equivalent. If you are going to drive short distances at slow speeds you may want to go one heat range hotter. Carburation on older cars was not optimal and with age and wear older cars tend to run on the rich side...
