Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Hey Bruce, Very interesting! Can you post some photos? 4A 5152T indicates that your car is actually a 1950 4A. The pre-fix "4A" indicates the model and the suffix "T" indicates the year and T was 1950. The post-war chassis number suffix started in 1946/47 as "Q". The 4 ...

Re: Singer Heel Mat

Finally found the pair of NASOC mats that I bought many years ago... NASOC Singer Matts_WEB.jpg They still look like new! And here is a close-up of the logo they used: NASOC Singer Matt_2_WEB.jpg If you were to cut these down to the right rectangular shape with the logo in the middle they would make...

Re: Singer Heel Mat

Great idea Mike!

Dave Green would most likely be the man to know! I'll send him an e-mail and link him to this thread...

Re: Under bonnet colours?

Hi Peter,

The bulkhead and tool deck were black. The engine and gearbox was a sort of orange-brown primer colour.

Check out Paul Bouchard's Nine engine rebuild blog for more details:

Hope that helps!

Re: Singer Heel Mat

Hi David, As soon as you said California, alarm bells started ringing. This is the NASOC mat! Still available at Metro rubber: AC 48 Accessory Floor Mat - 12"X17" $36.80 Accessory Floor Mat - made of high quality black rubber with molded original emblem. Also designed to be sewn into new c...

Re: Singer Heel Mat

Hi David, This is pretty amazing. It looks exactly like the ones NASOC made some years ago and I think can still be bought via Metro Rubber in the states. I'll dig out one in the next day or so and photograph it so we can compare. How did you determine its provenance? Thanks so much for the update!

Re: What coolant to use

That's great news George and glad to hear that my hunches were pretty much on target. I'm looking forward to seeing what dealer sold the car and who it went to. My factory record card was interesting in that it said the car was ivory with apple green wings and apple green upholstery. In the way it i...

Re: What coolant to use

Hi George, As Brian says, the original registration number was probably sold and a cheaper "age-related" plate purchased. TV is a Nottingham prefix introduced in 1929, according to my data. It will be interesting to see if this matches up with the address of the first owner on the factory ...

Re: What coolant to use

Thanks George, I'm very happy to help out and keep the interest in Singer cars alive - especially the pre-war examples. I've been collecting Singers and Singer related material for over 45 years, so found a few good things in that time. I would also look into the registration number 366 UXB. Do you ...

Re: What coolant to use

Hi George, Here are the photos of the 'press prototype' that was shown in The Light Car & Cyclecar, November 4th, 1932. Chassis production started at 45000, so your car, at 45006, is a very early example and perhaps the oldest known of the Nine Sports. It will be interesting to see what the fact...

Re: What coolant to use

Hi George, Yes, the factory record card has all the build information on your car; relevant part numbers, original colours, dealership information and first owner. All very useful. You are correct, the scuttle on the 1935/36/37 cars had the vents, but also the twin humped scuttle, which the 33/34 Ni...

Re: What coolant to use

Hey George, Per Brian's posts, I would certainly look at the electrical side of things. As he say's there are a lot of dubious repro parts out there. Looking at your photos, there is something very interesting with your car: The scuttle has opening vents rather than the three louvres that were stand...

Re: What coolant to use

Hi George, Great photos! It's a lovely early Sports and looks just like mine! Congratulations and I hope you enjoy working on her and driving her. 45006 is indeed an early example! Mine car/chassis number is 48454 and engine number 48889, so, although Singers were not 'matching number' cars, the ran...

Re: What coolant to use

Hi again George, Here's a period photo of the engine compartment of a 1933 Sports with the Zenith carbs: Zenith Carbs_Nine Sports_B&W_WEB.jpg My data shows the Zenith 26-V carbs were used up to around engine number 46534 (Nine Sports parts catalog) and were replaced with the Zenith 30-VEI. My en...
