Re: The Restoration of AYW709

Sorry you haven't been well Mike, and glad you are back to puzzling over the car. I'm sure many old cars have bits and pieces from others that have been 'encouraged' to fit so I look forward to seeing the results of the welding! :D

Re: Help identifying coupe

Although I am still awaiting delivery of the compression spring I took her out for a run yesterday and was pleased to find that the gearbox was fine. She still jumps out of second when not under load but I can live with that and the other two are fine. I have adjusted the clutch linkage and it may b...

Re: Help identifying coupe

That is brilliant Phillip thanks. I have most of the right parts plus I have a compression spring on order. It looks as if a dome nut drilled through would work for the missing half round nut.

Re: Help identifying coupe

The photograph was what I needed Phillip thanks. It clearly shows that I have the right basic components but that I need a compression spring on the pedal side and a radiused nut or similar on the clutch side. If we didn't have the Atlantic between us I would love to come over and have a look!

Re: Help identifying coupe

Thanks Phillip that would be very helpful. Here is a shot of the linkage (without the return spring) plus a more general view of the gearbox when I installed the rebuilt engine.

Re: Help identifying coupe

Just a question on the clutch connecting rod from the pedal to the lever: mine is a bit of a botch up having nuts providing the connection to the actuating lever on the bell housing. The lever has what looks like half round depressions so I assume that the nuts should be replaced by some special con...

Re: The Restoration of AYW709

Looking at pictures on line it seems that the wing flare finishes a couple of inches in front of the radiator, and the radiator also sets up the location for the valance. From the shape of the valance it looks like it is supposed to fit closely over the front spring hanger so those two immovable poi...

Re: New Project

I wouldn't count on it Mike - Dick is a slow worker and has other commitments, but now he has started I'm happy to wait. I would like to take her onto the roads this year though...

Re: New Project

In a positive development my friend says he will try and make the stainless screen surround next week when he has some time unless his wife finds new jobs for him. His wife really likes the biscotti I make so I have suggested he uses them as leverage to maintain the space in his calendar :D . Finger...

Re: New Project

It is one idea I have Brian. The sides are fine and once the glass is in place it will provide a lot of support. The parts did clean up quite well given that i like old cars to look their age so once I get them back I'll have a go. there is nothing to lose after all.

Re: New Project

I haven't been able to find the section I need hence my plan to make it (see picture). Both of my (busy) friends are excellent welders and they were going to weld this up from stainless sections. With my low skill level I have no option but to use brass and solder.
