That is brilliant Phillip thanks. I have most of the right parts plus I have a compression spring on order. It looks as if a dome nut drilled through would work for the missing half round nut.

The photograph was what I needed Phillip thanks. It clearly shows that I have the right basic components but that I need a compression spring on the pedal side and a radiused nut or similar on the clutch side. If we didn't have the Atlantic between us I would love to come over and have a look!

In a positive development my friend says he will try and make the stainless screen surround next week when he has some time unless his wife finds new jobs for him. It is one idea I have Brian. The sides are fine and once the glass is in place it will provide a lot of support. The parts did clean up quite well given that i like old cars to look their age so once I get them back I'll have a go. there is nothing to lose after all.

I haven't been able to find the section I need hence my plan to make it (see picture). Both of my (busy) friends are excellent welders and they were going to weld this up from stainless sections. With my low skill level I have no option but to use brass and solder.
