Re: 4AD Seat Mount Rails
Hi Fred, The vertical bolts near the rear edge of the seat bottom, that I think you are referring to, are for attaching a wooden bumper part over the seat bottom rear edge. The lower edge of the seat back leans against this bumper. It seems that I do not have an y picture on my web site that would s...

Re: 4AD Seat Mount Rails
Hi Fred, I took some measurements from my car. The wooden strips are ~28mm (1 1/8") wide, ~10mm (3/8") thick and ~380mm (15") long, the same length as the seat rail. When installed with these original wood strips and the seat rails, the bottom of the seat is ~30mm (1 1/4") above ...

Re: 4AD Seat Mount Rails
Hi Fred, The original configuration actually has wooden strips under the seat rails, so those might actually be original. I have seen completely similar strips on two different cars. Here are a couple of photos showing the parts; there is a flat wooden strip and a wedge shaped wooden block to match ...

Re: 4AD Seat Mount Rails
Hi Fred, I have some pictures of the original seat rails and they look like this Singer_seat_runners.png You can find some more pictures on my web site. http://www.guru-group.fi/~kabu/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=viewcategory&catid=17&startpage=3&Itemid=61#category The rails...

Re: Coronation Blue vs Salvador Blue
Hi, Kevin Atkinson's The Singer Story -book from 1996 mentions that "The only real change for the 1953 Roadster was that the dashboard was covered in Vynide instead of having the earlier timber finish", so this change appears to have been introduced to the 1953 model year. I have restored ...

Re: Coronation Blue vs Salvador Blue
Hi, I do not know about older 4AD's but the late ones did have also other upholstery colors available than beige. Here is a picture from a late 4AD brochure, late because it shows also the twin carburetter engine, and it shows the available color combinations. It may of course be that Singer has sti...

Re: Carb Help - Rebuild, wrong carb?
Hi Thomas, The 32-B carburettor may well work quite fine on the car, or have you found it to be problematic on something? There seems to be now one 30 FAI carburettor in Ebay from the US, The condition looks quite complete and repairable, the ones that I have were not much better that that, maybe ev...

Re: Carb Help - Rebuild, wrong carb?
Hi Thomas, It does indeed look like you have a non-original carburettor in your car. Im my understanding all 4AD's were supplier with Solex 30FAI carburettor(s). Single and twin carb setups both have the same unit but there is slight difference in the jet sizes, here is a table showing the jet sizes...

Re: 4AD Singer brake snail adjusters
Hi Stephen, Sorry to hear that the ones from the small Fords are different size and do not fit. Unfortunately I do not know where correct adjusters would be available. One option is to measure the worn adjusters carefully and draw the snail profile with proper serrations with a CAD system and then h...

Re: 4AD grill replacement
Hi Ken, Yes, I have fabricated a new grille for my 1954 Roadster and believe there are also some others who have done the same. The grille construction is such that it is possible to fabricate a reproduction by using quite normal sheet metal shop tools like a shear and a bending machine or press. I ...

Re: 4AD Dual Oil Filter Decals
Hi, I just listed some potential places that (may) have this decal available, also some sites that are in the UK. You may find other, potentially better suppliers by looking other companies that supply parts to older British cars, especially Jaguar XK's. As Mark said, the third link might be good as...

Re: 4AD Dual Oil Filter Decals
Hi, I did some research on this subject while restoring my twin carburettor 4AD a few years back. Here is a picture from an original twin carb brochure to the UK home market that shows labels on top of the air filters. Twin_carb_engine_s.JPG Similar AC "pancake" air filters were used also ...

Re: Upper Radiator Hose
Hi,
This vintage car spares company in the UK has the correct hose listed, might be worth checking if you don't find the part locally in the US.

Re: 4AD Electrical - Positive or Negative
Hi, I agree with Mark; no need for a radio :D However, if you do want one, I'd leave the car electrics and polarity original and acquire a radio that is compatible with positive ground (I believe they are available in the "retro" ranges of some manufacturers). Another option is using a vol...
