Re: Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

That's interesting. I had looked at the picture of the number 54 car a few times and always thought that the wing flashes were simply masking tape added to protect the paintwork from gravel and debris during the race, much the same as the on the headlights of many of the cars and the rad shell of on...

Re: Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

I've looked at a lot of old photos of Singers and I think I've seen three variations of what I would call extremely tall, oversized bumperettes. The one that Mark was asking about appears to be identical to the one on a car (possibly the Vaughn-Singer Vibrin Roadster) in an article about the SMX by ...

Re: Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

Thank you, Peter. As far as I can tell, there was the Lamoreaux car (1), the car in the O'Connor photos (2) and Vern Garner's 116F race car (3) which had a very, very similar paint job to the O'Connor photo shoot car. I say similar because they appear to differ in the how the white is applied to the...

Re: Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

Thank you, Phillip. That's really interesting. Has anyone ever seen the Davis photos? I must say, period photos of these cars (or of any car really), are my favourites. I think I've seen three variations of the custom two tone paint similar to the one in the O'Connor pictures, with integration of si...

Re: Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

I found a reference to the photographer (Frank Worth) and it appears to Debbie Reynolds with Donald O'Connor. I'm still curious about the rest of the story though.

Marylin Monroe, Sammy Davis Jr and Donald O'Connor

This really trivial stuff, but does anyone know the back story on the photos of the Singer 4AD taken with Marylin Monroe and Sammy Davis Jr and the photos used for the magazine cover with Donald 'Connor and a different "hopped-up" Singer roadster? After finding the uncropped photos of O'Co...

Re: Metalastik motor mount

Thanks for the information, Mike. In my old parts I also have one that was partially repaired by drilling and countersinking holes in the bottom plate and putting screws as pegs up into the rubber, presumably to to stop lateral movement, should the bond break, which it did. I have at least four fail...

Metalastik motor mount

Does anyone know of a supplier for a newly manufactured metalastik (sp?) motor mount for a 4AD? These seem like something that you really want keep an eye on and definitely have a spare one around. The one on my car failed, allowing the front of the engine too much lateral movement, ultimately damag...

Re: Singer owner's club dash plaque

That's great information. Thank you Peter. The posting says they only ship to the continental United States, so that leaves me out, but curiously there is an eBay international shipping cost that pops up too. It's a neat piece and it's pretty cheap for someone stateside.

Singer owner's club dash plaque

I noticed a curious singer collectable on eBay. I'm not interested in buying it, and I'm not the seller, but I figured someone on here who was interested in vintage club stuff or vintage racing stuff might be able to shed some light on the cryptic name or might be interested in it. It's a vintage da...

Re: Twin carb vs single carb heads. What's the difference?

Thank you,

I see now that my engine number is stamped with the ADT prefix, and the car does have the correct Salisbury rear axle. The engine number doesn't match the serial number on the cowl though.

Twin carb vs single carb heads. What's the difference?

I read through a few old postings regarding twin carbs vs single carbs (basically 4ADT vs 4AD) and I noticed that there was some discussion of a different head being used with the twin carb set up, but no information on how to tell the difference from a single carb head. Are there external differenc...

Original parts tags

When I bought my 4AD it came with a lot of used and NOS parts. I'm sure that some of you have come across the original Singer Parts tags before, but others may not have, so I've included a snap shot of what these old tags look like. They are printed on a material that I would call "map canvas&q...
