Re: 4ad valve settings
For every engine I use the same way to check: Piston in cylinder 1 in top, and open the cover so you can see the both valves , intake and outlet together. Just in the middle when the one is closing and the other is opening should be the piston on top. In the most situations you can find marks who ar...

Re: Barn find 52 4AD
Granted that mine is a 4A, I've ordered up (and most likely paying too much) Castrol classic xl 30 motor oil which Castrol claims has all the vitamins and minerals a growing mechanical baby needs to go on. On the subject of oil.... I've got several oil drips from my car including one small river fr...

Re: 51 roadster 4a restoration Australia ladies
As you can see, this is a never mounted part, I already made a rough parts from a tree to dry. My experience is when a tree is drying, and you have made a part before the wood is dry, it is not straight any-more when dry. But when rough made before, it's drying faster, and gives a good result when f...

Re: 51 roadster 4a restoration Australia ladies
I still have to make that part, there was only one copy with the both cars when I bought them.
I will make a picture with measurements if needed, but am not sure it is the right one.

Re: 4AD Wiring loom routing
To avoid a new topic about the same question: is this the same as on the RHD 4A cars?
Or is it just a mirror way of mounting?
I got the new wiring from Autosparks, it looks nice, almost to good to put it away in a corner from the chassis....

Re: Correct Fuel Pump
On the Morris, I have an electric pump, and it is the original one. On the 4A, I have also the original pump for the car, but the SU from the Morris has some nice points. It is possible to empty the tank complete before the winterstop, and fill him with Aspen till the better weather. But there is no...

Re: Picture quiz
The wheels , bumper, grille are telling 4A, around 1950.
Mine from 1950 is looking the same at these points.
Never saw these bumper guards.
Could not see if there is a Singer 9 mark, but maybe someone else?

Re: Barn find 52 4AD
The top text Singer, is this original?
I have also 2 of them here, one of the 4A front's have it.
The other 2 not, so my first idea was a self made logo....

Re: Parts supplier recommendations on a 52 4AD
It takes a bit of time but I know from own experience, the best way is find the part numbers in the catalogues. For mine it was easy, the 4A had the same distributor as the Sidevalve Morris, who is also in my barn, but just the other direction running. That means contact points are the same, ground ...

Re: 4AD Serial Numbers for a 52
I did this for more than one car, using the Dutch club as contact. So if you have this option in your area, the costs for sending oversea are a bit lower. GBP 60 should not be a big issue for getting all the information and a certificate, also not when you have an almost matching car. My experience ...

Re: 4AD Serial Numbers for a 52
The location from the chassis number for a 4A is on the front right, just behind the bumper mounts. Rear axle, on top in the middle, gear box on top, front axle is different for a 4A on the outside, I do not know if the 4AD has an axle number. Engine number on top of the clutch / flywheel housing. I...
