Re: New Project
... but I'm still concerned about the linkage between the foot and hand brake and the implication of the brake light staying on with the hand brake. I'll ask John Griffiths what he has done as he has the same configuration. All Austin Sevens from mid-1930 have a braking system which is operated by ...

1939 Le Mans
I have a duplicate copy of The Motor magazine which contains a three page article by Gordon Wilkins on the Singer participation in the 1939 Le Mans Race. If anyone here would like it for a nominal sum, send me a pm. https://i.postimg.cc/K85R5r9d/IMG_1595.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/0QKkhpf5/IMG_1596.jp...

Re: what is it?
That body is very British in style, but the registration number is definitely French. The front valence is probably the best identifying feature, and my guess is that it's a Salmson S4C. Most survivors seem to be missing the valence - presumably the dynamo is troublesome! - but I did find this pictu...

Re: New Project
The original padding would have been something like horsehair or coir, which could be 'feathered' towards the edges:

or perhaps this skin wadding is the answer:

Would it not be easier to cut your screen and extend the top and bottom sections?

Re: New Project
Sounds like a (partial) blockage in one of the carburettor jets, probably the main jet.

That looks wonderful, and those headlamps don't look at all out of place.

Re: New Project
It is surely a forging, not a casting? There is no way you will be able to bend a casting, it will be too brittle; but for that very reason I believe it will not be a casting.

Re: New Project
Are the faces of the clutch toggles worn? There doesn't appear to be any shimming between the clutch toggles and the thrust race, but presumably it is possible to make/insert a suitable washer to take up the slack.

Re: New Project
Cast iron block and aluminium crankcase was standard practice with Austins of the period. There will surely be a paper gasket between them, and you should have no problem separating them.

Re: Le Mans 2 Seater Dashboard
... The hole for the ignition switch in the metal centre panel is 1/2" diameter. I'm not sure what type of switch was fitted - I need one myself. Presumably one with a spade key? The panel itself originally had a black crackle finish... I am pretty sure the original ignition switch was not key...

A 'full' reading on the fuel gauge suggests a bad earth to the instrument.

Re: Help finding original registration
OY was issued by Croydon between January 1931 and mid 1934; the first number issued in 1934 was 7572, so if you have a 1934 car it is more likely to have been 9000 than 7000. Unfortunately DVLA will only accept documentary evidence that links registration to chassis number so ideally you need to tra...
