Re: Engine colour for 1936 Nine Sports

Good luck with the refresh, John.

I agree, 'Oily Rag Original' should indeed be a class.

Re: hole below the doors in the alu strip

My 1946 A Series and my 1950 4A had the alloy strips on the door sills and the cutout for the rubber rollers that are very similar to those used pre-war. There should also be a bronze 'wedge' screwed to the bottom of the door which rides up onto the roller. There were also two rubber buffers screwed...

Re: Engine colour for 1936 Nine Sports

Hi John, Great to have you back in the Singer fold and to see a Singer featured in Octane again. Interestingly I have some early 30's engine parts that are all a darker green than BMC and later engine parts that are black. My mate Barry who has been playing with Singers since the 50's tells me the e...

Re: G'day from Western Australia

Great video from Tweed's Garage on YouTube regarding laser welding the same sort of cracks on a Riley Nine block! https://www.youTube.com/watch?v=rtF2e0zjO_w Seems these engines suffered quite a few similar problems to our Singer engines, even though they appeared a lot beefier. This is a good littl...

Re: 1935 LeMans Headlights

Hi Mike, Absolutely. There is always room for healthy discussion and Singer was known for buying odd batches of items, but there is no denying what my eyes have seen. Yes, the L at the beginning of the model number denotes Lucas, but I have worked on a number of 1935 Singers sports cars and those th...

Re: 1935 LeMans Headlights

Hi Michael, The headlights would almost certainly be Rotax LB140's with the flat Difusa glass. Your car currently has the post-war type used on the A Series Roadster from 1946 to 1949, as well as the Ten and Super Ten. They were used on the MG TC also. These are Lucas and I seem to recall the model ...

Re: New find in Australia

Looks like a Senior Six. Probably with the wider 'export' chassis.

A very cool survivor that needs to be saved and preserved!

Very cool!

Re: BRITISH INVASION 2021: 30TH ANNIVERSARY - 20 YEARS WITH SINGER

The 30th Anniversary British Invasion has come and gone and Singers were on the field! Many thanks to Pat and Dee Desmond, with boys Mike and Chris, along with Dave and Ellen Norton, for showing their Singers on the field. Offering support were Joe Tarta and the Tarta clan, but Joe did not bring his...

Re: headlights, 34 9 LM

The "U shape" lenses also usually have the rounded edge rims, not the sharp edge rims. Lucas absorbed CAV and Rotax, so the only main difference in the lamps of the mid-30's is the medallion. Both Lucas and Rotax medallions are available on-line. I own both Lucas and Rotax versions of thes...

Re: headlights, 34 9 LM

According to my files, headlamps were 8 inch Rotax LB140 and LB140EDS. Chrome plated shell and rim, flat Difusa glass, silvered reflectors. A slotted knurled screw at the bottom of the rim held it in place. Base plates and mounting washers were generally black enamel. For 1935 my Lucas catalog lists...

Re: WANTED Singer Car Owners Information

Hi Grant, Check out the pre-war threads on running board rubber. The Roadsters had the same rubber tread. Brian Clifton in the UK had some rubber made and it is excellent. Metro Rubber in the USA also sells a version of the rubber, but the profile is not quite right. The chrome end caps are not comm...
